Kingdoms RPG
« on: January 19, 2011, 03:08:51 AM »
Just a plug for my game...

Kingdoms is a "persistent world" role-playing game, where you control a party of characters, exploring a dynamic world, battling creatures, completing quests, discovering dungeons, and interacting with other parties.

Your party is made up of characters from 4 different classes - Warrior, Archer, Priest and Mage. As with most role-playing games, they're fairly puny to begin with, but after a few battles, and a few completed quests, they will increase in level, and can afford a some better weapons and armour. After a while, they'll even be strong enough to find and explore some of the dungeons scattered about the map, and they may even be able to afford to recruit new members to their ranks.

As your party gains in stature, they'll begin to have a greater impact on the world around them, helping to improve (or hinder!) the prosperity of towns, create landmarks, take over towns and many other actions you don't expect to find in a traditional RPG.

Your actions within the game are limited by turns, which are refreshed each day. If you don't use your turns on a particular day, they'll accumulate for a couple of days, meaning you don't have to log in every day.

So check it out: http://kingdoms-game.com/

I've seen the same game shown at gamedev.net :P

This is a much friendly forum for BBG development btw.  Your project looks good.  I'd love to hear more about the features you plan on adding.

The latest Kingdoms release might be the biggest ever. There are several major features, new artwork, a UI overhaul, and a long list of bug fixes.

Among the changes, 'rare' monsters have been added to dungeons. These creatures are found deep inside dungeons, are more powerful than the usual foe you'll find, and can cast spells against your party. Of course, if you can defeat them, they'll drop some awesome treasure.

Another addition is the ability of players to construct buildings. This requires your party to gather the right resources, and then spend the time to build it. Once created, any characters your leave in a garrison in the sector will gain benefits to attack or defence. Of course, you need to protect your buildings, or other players can capture or raze them.

Finally, dungeon tile sets have been re-done, and now have a lot more variety. Also, the 'action' menus for characters have been overhauled, and are now more graphical.

If you haven't checked out Kingdoms yet, head on over and sign up for free.

The latest release of my persistent browser-based game "Kingdoms" adds a new major feature. Players can now declare their own Kingdom, which allows them to tax mayors of towns they control, and offer quests to other parties to help them further their plans of world domination. This opens up a much more strategic and political element to the game, which has previously been focussed on traditional RPG-type play.

Yep, it's another release! I've added a whole lot of new stuff, including add-ons for buildings (which can be used to garrison characters to defend an area of the map), resistance ratings for each character, against Fire, Ice and Poison damage, and some new Mage spells. On top of that, is a whole slew of new artwork, including buttons for various actions, and a brand new logo.

Gmail is considered the most reliable and the highest delivery rate email provider. If you send an email to gmail and it has not arrived it means something absolutely terrible must be happening to your emailng system.

BTW, drop this ancient obsolete "verify email" thing. No one uses this nowadays.

I actually never checked my spam folder :-) although to be fair I never have and only had 3 emails in there!  I think your email server may be blacklisted or something to end up there.
However I'd agree that at the very least validation shouldn't be upfront like that.  If you're going to do it at all,  reward us in game for sharing and validating the email.

How can I raid a town? I don't see that option.
How can I be elected mayor? Doing quests?

Town raids require party of level 8. To become mayor, you can stand in an election (which also requires level 8), or raid the town and defeat the mayor in combat.

Another release out! You no longer have to verify your email to login (or even provide an email!).

A lot of UI and balance improvements in this release.

You have a poor selection/inconsistency of the game name.
The game is named "Kingdoms" (front page image), it uses the domain "kingdoms-game" and you advertise it as "Kingdoms RPG". There is no way a forgetful casual player can remember which one it is. Also you don't rank high on google search for "Kingdoms" keyword (the remaining two are fine).

Yes that's true.... it probably needs a name change sooner or later.
