- Scion, I didn't read most of your post but I wasn't defensive or angry, if that was the tone of my post it was unintentional.

well now im midly offended, you ask for peoples feedback and advice yet when they give it you cant even be bothered to read it!

Still if you wont take advice from me then perhapes you will from someone who is perhapes a little more well known....

read http://teachgamedesign.blogspot.com/2007/10/playtesting-is-sovereign.html and pay particular attention to the part where he talks about not letting your ego get in the way.

If I seem to think I know everything, it's just that I leave out all the IMHOs because pretty much everybody on a forum is talking from personal experience and opinion all the time.

Though when you talk in the imperative mood or say things such as "I wrote to state facts from that perspective", you can see how that leads to assumptions; it's not about planting IMHOs everywhere.

Scion, and from your post, it doesn't seem that you read mine because I'm not sure what you're going on about. Ego isn't a problem, I just corrected Harkin's question in the same form he asked it. I'm not saying there is nothing wrong the game, I believe there's always room for improvement.

With that said, I'll take what I want and I'll leave others at the doorstep; I do take all useful feedback, criticism, and opinions into account (such as making it more n00b-friendly), but I'll say right here that I'm not going to listen to everything said here like it's the word of god. I just felt like disregarding a rude comment that some of you here somehow want me to translate as "insightful knowledge", because apparently, if I don't, my ego is getting in the way so I need to read some irrelevant blog. An odd lot indeed.

You've gota admit that Scion just scored a big point there...

(I don't want to fan the flames though, but I'll mention that no one here expects what they say to be taken "like it's the Word of God", we all have our different likes and methodologies, and different ideas on gameplay, and we all acknowledge that; most of what we post here are suggestions and ideas, so it is quite natural to forget to add the IMOs and just assume the everyone knows what tone we are using. Maybe it's time to go back on topic about the physical game, instead of stooping down to the personal level; otherwise this topic will just breed pointless text flaming pointless text... )

Those are qutoes from two seperate posts, because I read his last one. Scion is just being incoherent, if he did in fact read my post, he would see that I welcome help, not that I "down want it".

I agree, like I said, IMO's don't need to be planted everywhere because we can assume it; but statements like "I wrote to state facts from that perspective" is not something that an IMO would preceed, and like I said (once again :-\), when posts are written in the imperative tone, IMOs aren't assumed. I just tried to clear up the diluted perspective some people had on "constructive criticism".

Likewise, people who backpedal into lame puns for lack of coherence and/or argument. What are we, 8?

This conversation is getting just plain sad.

The actual game is quite innovative, but we aren't talking about the game are we? We are talking about eachother's messages instead; how does that improve anything or produce anything? All it does is wast time.

@Incarnate
You obviously have very good skills as a coder, but you need to work on your forum skills.

-> You can withstand criticism easily if you just start your message half agreeing with your critic, make yourself sound happy/professional, ignoring any personal insults against you (or else jokingly agreeing with the insult), then clearly state the main points of your argument in the 2nd half of the post. If you do that the argument will usually stay civil.

@ everyone
The best rule of thumb is to remember that you should acknowledge your critic's intelligence. If you do that, the argument will be become more in depth and both sides will be more knowledgeable afterward, in short, the argument can be productive. However if insult your critic's intelligence with personal attacks, insults, or even just bad explanations then reading the thread will be like drinking curdled milk. (As for this thread I think I've gotten dumber just by looking at it)

Maybe it'd be better to delete this thread and just start over... the game looks quite good so far, having it's name as the title of this thread isn't good PR...

I thought I remained pretty civil. I don't have any problems with obstinate posters, but I don't have to agree with them or "fake" agree with them. They kept bumping the thread up to the top, that's excellent PR.
