New Ads
« on: February 01, 2011, 09:13:58 AM »
I was wondering how long it would take before someone added an ad to the header of this site.

about 2 years :) LOL

Wasn't an easy decision to make but after running the site for two years without any revenue we decided to give it a go. We do get a lot of traffic from people looking for games but not wanting to write or design games and for them, well now there is an ad and a listing of our members sites.

I did not notice them do to ad block. Is it Per click or per view you get payed.  I can easily disable it for this site so you get views.

Thanks Toxin, we appreciate that. For now though, it is per click so there's no need to view it if other games hold no interest for you. This is our first dabble though and it may change in the future to be per view. We'll keep you guys updated.

Yeah, a website really should be selfsupporting, no matter how everyone feels about ads. We already had a 2 year free ride (+ the time when it was run by Zeggy).

Alright, we've moved on to our next advertising experiment, AdSense, so we'd appreciate it if everyone could disable AdBlock for BBG. Thank you!

Yeah... ads just don't pay what they use to.  It makes me wonder how facebook/twitter are so highly valued.

Ads for low-traffic websites don't pay much. Same reason your local television station doesn't get $22 Million for a 30-second ad-slot but the national networks do... Larger audience = more impressions = higher value.

Oh, and direct ad sales > CPC solutions. I bet with a week's worth of legwork, you can find a number of businesses local to your area that'd be THRILLED to give you $1 / month for an ad that's part of a standard rotating set. Even if the nab ONE customer because of your ad, it's probably paid for itself for a whole year. ;)
Idiocy - Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.

Ad revenue, from my knowledge, is still way way down from 2003/2004 levels.  In those days, I made $100 in 4 months with hardly anyone playing.  Today, with a handful of people checking the site on a fairly regularly basis, I may have made $1.  Perhaps the CPM will pick up greatly once I hit high, steady traffic.....   but I don't expect too much.

I am only noticing the ads on Black Rain theme. I happily have ad-block turned off.
I just clicked one to like US Olympic Team on Facebook. I wish there were more adds "like" that.
