updates to Pioneers of Aethora
« on: September 03, 2007, 01:08:08 PM »
I've made a couple of updates in the last few months - just did a major update yesterday:

* Changes to the way Defeat is handled (should be less harsh and frustrating for players now)
* Added NPCs shops
* lots of interface enhancements

More details of the changes can be found here: (in-game forums - registered players only) http://aethora.com/forums/thread/5257

New screens of the game: http://docs.aethora.com/about/screenshots-september-2007

Particularly, check out the battle screens and the "Arranging Equipment" screen toward the bottom. Any feedback is appreciated (even if you only have time to check out the screens, I'd love to hear what you think).

Hmm, I guess no changes were made to game mechanics right?
Maybe you could make an 'auto-battle' button for people like me who are lazier :D

btw, I love your forum... did you make it yourself?

I think you kid, but I know a lot of BBG-RPGs are 'auto-battling'. The whole point behind PoA is that it plays more like a tactical party-based RPG.

Thanks - yes, I made the forum. It doesn't have as many features as some of the prominent forums out there, but I wanted something that was more tightly integrated into the game and the basis for the forum is the same code used for the logging system. It easily allows for players to add 'posts' to their own logs, and the results of battles and missions also get posted to their own logs as well. Other players can read your log and reply to posts, just like they were forum topics. It's a feature that a really small percentage of people use, but I think it's kinda neat :-)

Good job man!

A few quick comments, mostly about the interface:

Please loose the chalky pastel color scheme. It?s too distracting for the textual color coding you are trying to use. Maybe you?re testing on a CRT, but I?m using a LCD and the whole hue of things is just off.

The link ?[toggle the numbered tile links]? when in battle does not seem to work.

You have several different ?loading? messages/boxes/callouts/whatever for when Ajax is doing a postback. Consolidate these, and only use one box, one style, etc.

A ?loot all?, or ?loot all unique items? or ?drop all armor? or similar button would be nice for some of the more common mass inventory actions.

Unless size matters, make all the item panels the same width.
