Zandagort - browser based sci-fi MMORTS
« on: December 03, 2011, 09:43:39 AM »
Hi everyone!

Zandagort (zandagort.com) is a browser-based sci-fi MMORTS developed by Hungarian indie game studio Zanda Games.

Based on player feedback the game has three unique features worth mentioning:
  • A realistic ecological model (Lotka-Volterra) with 54 species that limit the growth opportunities of the players.
  • A realistic economical model (Input-Output) with 33 buildings, 17 resources and complex production chains.
  • And last but not least spaceships are not just countdowns but moving objects on the map, making geostrategy, fog of war, diversion operations and other tactical maneuvers part of the game.

The game is divided into 4-5 month periods of PvP when players/alliances compete against each other (using economy, trading, warfare and diplomacy) and 2-3 week periods of PvE when the aliens led by Zandagort arrive to destroy mankind and players friends or foes before have to collaborate to survive.

Please check out the game at zandagort.com. All feedback is welcome.

SF and "sawmill"? These are not exactly compatible... I would rename/change your facilities and resources.

I would not. :-) Trees evolved through 100 million years, so it's no wonder, it's one of the best building material regarding cost, strength and other parameters. I'm pretty sure mankind will use it even in the distant future. What's the alternative? Plastic? On terraformed planets, there's no natural oil. Without oil you don't have cheap plastic. Just look at the plastic production chain in Zandagort: lumber -> coal -> oil -> plastic. When the oil reserves are out on Earth, this will our future too.

In hard sci-fi you have to take physical laws and other constraints into consideration. There's no such thing as a "supermaterial" that is cheap and fits all needs. Or if there was, there would be no economy (which is not really good in a strategy game). :-)
