Game Owners forum
« on: August 23, 2008, 04:50:33 AM »
First, some small changes: I've removed the Java/ActionScript coding forums. Java/Flash gaming is quite different from most browser games, and there are plenty of better and more resourceful forums if you want to learn either of those.

Second: Game Owners forum!

If you are the owner of a game, and you would like to be part of the 'Game Owners' member group, you can access the Game Owners board, just for game owners! In there you can share advice and get professional responses to your questions.

Your game must meet the following requirements:
Must be functional, and online/public for over a month.
Not on free hosting, with own domain name.
If using a paid script, must have a legit copy/license.

If your game meets the requirements, PM me the following information:
Your name
Game name
URL

And I will put you in the Game Owners member group!

Edit: Oh yes, and all game owners get automatic access to the 'Script Vault'.

Why not on free hosting? If you run it with your own Domain and without any hosts ads I don't see a reason for this. I think you will have problems to find out is the host free if the host also provides paid hosting.

Otherwise, sounds good :)

Well, okay, if you can't tell it's free hosting, and if it doesn't have a bunch of ads from the hosting provider, that's okay too :)

Why auto access to 'Script Vault'? Let everyone suffer equally! :-D
(this will also reduce the amount of fake submissions, the game owners forum just does not have anything really usefull for those who only plan/are making the game, it should be this way. Besides... if you already have an established game, you don't really need any crappy, buggy free scripts)

I support this. If your game is suitable for free hosting, then it is too small, sorry.

Well, generally most free hosts don't provide enough resources to run any kind of slightly popular web game.

MOST, but not all ;). If the game MUST be slightly popular, ask for a minimum amount of players, or a minimum size if scripts, etc.

Well, one of my all time favourite game was less than 100Kb, and it had 5k players when it was still online. I know the game owner and he told me that it was on a free host with 6 Gb transfer a month..

Well, some free hosting do give enough bandwidth. It's just the cpu usage which might become a problem.

Did you know, before the recent move, BBGameZone was on paid hosting but with just 5GB bandwidth limit a month?
I bought the hosting package many years ago when hosting providers were still providing just 200MB space. As time went on and resources increased, my hosting package didn't change, except an increase to 1GB space. But I've never gone over the 5GB bandwidth limit with BBGameZone :o

No need to worry though, my new host provides plenty of bandwidth! :D

well some free hosts are good.
like http://www.000webhost.com/
they offer 250MB diskspace, 100GB traffic, ...
free hosts suffer from slow connection through...

The space and bandwidth doesn't matter, but the hardware does and if it is shared hosting or not. :)

I've got to say, perhaps you could make two boards? One with the larger more experienced game owners, and the other with those that have smaller games on free hosts? Of course those with more experience and larger games would be on both boards to assist the smaller games? Just a thought.

Nice find on Google it appears :)

You know, there are no magic secrets hidden on Game Owners board. And definitely there is nothing you might find useful when you just started. We talk there about APU, CPU (it is not a processor :D), retention rate, conversion rates... Unless you run your game at least a bit more than a hobby and get $100 monthly minimum from it you won't find anything interesting to you there.
