Multiple Grid Based Combat System
« on: January 19, 2009, 10:24:11 PM »
Now I am sure we are all fairly familiar with the average pbbg combat system, which is usually purely pvp  or pve based. The goal is mind is similar to both systems. using Tribal wars as a example(only because i play it and am familiar with the system). All users belong to 1 "Race" and fight on the huge grid based world. I suppose the question i am attempting to ask is anyone familiar with a multiracial/grid game?or even a single grid based game that is open source(visual learner, what can i say)

The idea i have laid out involves multiple races each with a "home" grid which will be unattackable (will explain further)
Multiple other grids based on different planets that they will be able to build military bases, gain more bases etc(again similar to tribal wars, just on a secondary grid)Battles will take place on these secondary grids and will have repercussions to the first when secondary bases are lost( riots, loss of technology etc) but will not however force a user to lose everything on there first grid, just hinder there military/economic ability greatly.

Not looking to make anyone build this for me, but would more then appreciate if anyone could point out some references , or possibly scripts/source that i may look over, so i may design this personally.

I know that AstroEmpires uses a grid, but it's not a multiple grid system as the one you've described.

I hope I understand good what you are asking for. if that is so you could try to look at myphppa code which is a clone of Planetarion, a game with races. The game has a complex battle system and 4 different races are involved. I hope this helps you.

This is almost identical to what I am doing (don't let this discourage you ofcourse!).  A tribe's home will always be a safe zone, and other player's cannot attack it.  However, there will be contested areas where the tribe can build, and move about in which combat will absolutely be allowed.

I'll explain more when I get home.
