Want To Hire A Programmer
« on: January 12, 2010, 04:43:21 PM »
I may also be interested in hiring a programmer if the fees are reasonable...I have zero knowledge of programming and no inclination to learn. I want to stick with what I do best, which is the creation of art.

If there are any turnkey mechanisms to get from idea + artwork to the creation of a browser game, I'd love the advice on where to look.

Long-term, I want to develop RPGs, but primarily, I'd like to do Facebook-social app type browser games, like FarmVille.

To keep from hijacking someone else's thread, I've split these posts into their own.

FarmVille have trouble with monetarization. I would go for something more profitable if you are to hire programmer. Otherwise you could sink...

I've honestly never played Farmville, but with all the users they have (based on what I hear), they're actually having issues with cashflow?

Rather then hiring some one else, perhaps you could look for a project to work for? Good artists are wanted and if you spend some time looking I think you could definitely find a project you will feel comfortable with.

In any case, you should completely design your game ahead of time. Development is expensive, I won't lie. I wouldn't even consider working for less than $25 / hour (or, since I can spend about 20 hours per week doing a project of some sort, $500 / week).

I don't do "per project" quotes right now unless it's extremely in my favor. I've been burned by that too many times. Seriously, there were a couple of projects that once all was done I was earning about $2.50 / hour for the time I put in! lol

So, you can see how quickly costs can add up. If you have the whole system worked out ahead of time, it will minimize your development work and, thus, your total cost.

Hope that helps.

Art barter fo services is basically my interest....but some people may want a little cash, so I'm holding out that possibility.

As games go, I would not literally be aiming to clone FarmVille, as there is, predictably, already a stampede to do so in progress from dozens of entities, large and small.

Rather then hiring some one else, perhaps you could look for a project to work for? Good artists are wanted and if you spend some time looking I think you could definitely find a project you will feel comfortable with.
