So, it's been rather quiet around here. I'd like to think it's because we're all too busy building and developing away at what are undoubtedly going to be beautiful games. My question to you; what game are you currently working on? What part of the game are you currently developing? Which interesting problems are you encountering and how are you looking to solve them?

Working on some interesting problems with areas of land on a cartesian grid, and trying to render them visually. The grid is divided up into areas that are defined dynamically (i.e. players "capture" parts of it), and can be non-contiguous. So I've been working on some algorithms to calculate the borders, so the "AI" can do things like select an area near its border to perform certain actions. Displaying it visually is also quite interesting. My first implementation is to have a table which colours in the squares, but that has a number of limitations. Normally, CSS doesn't let you have complex polygons (you can with image maps, but they have their own limitations). Then I discovered this: http://raphaeljs.com/ .. seems you can draw polygons in SVG (or the Microsoft equivalent) and have them accessible via the DOM. Haven't really had a chance to play with it yet, but seems very cool.

Sorry if the above is a bit waffling... just thought I'd throw up a few of things things I'd been playing with :)

Personally, I'm still working on Shadowrun: Corrosion, a cyberpunk roleplaying game. Currently working on the second available mission in the game, which is an arena where you can fight for money and karma (=experience points). Every time you defeat an opponent you move up in the ranking and the next opponent you meet in the arena will be a little tougher, a little harder to defeat. Eventually you'll have defeated all the opponents and earn the title of Arena Master (or some such lofty title) which will boost your reputation.

The problem I'm having is how to scale the opponents, what's going to make them challenging but not absolutely impossible from one opponent to the next. It's a lot of tweaking, a lot of trying and a little bit of math, but it's costing me a lot of time, unfortunately.

I am creating a game called "Valdius" which will have several skills such as Woodcutting, Mining, Fishing etc. I have heard these types of games called "Runescape but Text Based"

I am running into all kinds of problems but am overcoming them and getting better everyday. :) Right now I am struggling to decide on how to do my map system. There will be towns made by me, the owner, but there will also be player made towns so it needs to be dynamic so have yet to figure it out. :( And even if I did, creating it would be very difficult as well since I would probably need pixel art, which I have very little skill in. :(

Anyway, I must confess, I pretty much only come to this forum to ask for help, which I am trying to change. :P There are many intelligent and skilled people here who could really teach me some things if I stick around. ;)

Hey, I'm still working on 'version two' of my http://demo.httpmmo.com/zombie-corridor/ I'm still pretty early into the development, as I took a long break, but the current version is going well.

The idea behind zombie corridor is that it'll use most of the functionality I want in my engine, so its more of a testcase for Thorny Engine, which is a Javascript based 2d-pbbg engine. How well the engine will work is still pretty unknown, as I'm trying to do something I've never done or seen done before in JS, buts its good fun non-the-less :)

I'm still working on Lords of Midnight.  I have a new upcoming alpha release that I'm very excited about.  But I'm holding out on seeking reviews/criticism from members of this forum until I feel proud enough about my creation to call it a beta.

Pluggin' away at Fleeting Fantasy. Still heavily focused on the front-end tho' I've been adding various items into the back-end periodically.

Blimey, writing PBBGs is time-consuming!

Current estimated time of go live... 2018, LOL.
Currently working on an HTML5 canvas 2.5D landscape renderer and a PBBG that uses it (http://fleetingfantasy.com/). The development blog's at http://fleetingfantasy.wordpress.com/.

Cyberstryke just ended its round and I need to get some updates done to release round #6.

Cypher just started a new round but I've been working heavily on the ability for player's to hack factions in the game via a *nix like terminal interface. Cypher's code base is getting tired (over 6 years old now) and we are currently using all 3 js libraries in various parts of the game (yui, prototype, jquery). Slowly standardizing on jquery.

Oh and currently heavily addicted to LOTRO so development is sporadic at best :)

Creating online addictions, one game at a time:

I was totally amazed I came in second in the last round of CyberStryke and I can't wait for the next round. :)

Currently developing a game called NightWreck. It's war based set in the eighteen hundreds, but with mythical creatures. :(
Working on the front end, using jQuery and making up plugins as I go along, and adapting the back-end as required.

Current conflict: altering elements that's been generated by js; having everything see something that isn't really there is a bummer.

I also have been working on (what is now) version 3 of My game - www.astarum.com

The thing that I have been having the most trouble with is actually making it look good.  I have practically zero design skills, so am having to find people who are willing to donate artwork, either for free or for a tiny amount (as I don't have a great deal of money to spend on the game)

However, I think I have done an Ok job upto this point.  My next goal is to create an achievements system, you know, build x and y and you get award z.  Like trophies that you can display proudly to other players.

It's just getting the time to do it that's the hard part!

I think you've done a fantastic job with the art and design so far! I'm having a similar problem, I have no design skills in me to save my life. Luckily, I do know a few people that can come through on that part. At one point or another, if and when I'm feeling secure about my game, I'll invest about a grand in commissioning a few people to make some custom art. Until that time; placeholders. :)

Been working on my game dcosm.com rebuild the last few weeks and finally have an alpha. Still have a lot of testing to go but the concept is pretty solid and many more years worth of ideas to come and feature ideas of players. Guess we will see where it all goes.  :D
