List of all combat models in strategies
« on: November 09, 2010, 05:55:04 AM »
It struck me recently how few there are combat models (by model I mean attack limiting factor, not how the combat is ressolved) in BBGs.

- Time based - an army require X time to reach destination then it fights and go back. The attack limit is time.

- Turn/energy/points based - there are some "points" that are used to attack, combat is instant and use no time. Once you are out of these points you can not attack anymore.

- Casuality based - you can attack as much as you want but there are casualities so you attack until your units die (sort of Risk style, don't recall it being used in any BBG)

And that's it... Have you ever seen any other model?

for casualty based, many games with a timer have casualties as the main limiting factor.

In games with limited, low numbers of players, sometimes each player only gets to attack once until everyone else has had a chance (chess, some wargames).

Upkeep/Army Cap? Like Warcraft 3, etc.
