About User voice and alternatives?
« on: January 26, 2010, 07:19:46 AM »
Hi,

I'm actually checking those awesome survey/voting systems like User voice to communicate with my players and allow them to feed the game with new ideas :

BUT
those are simply awfully expensive for a browser game!! For our small game it would yet cost more hundred per months... Why do they bill so high for such -very nice- small plugin?
And have you got alternatives perhaps? I still think I will try User voice soon anyway otherwise...

They bill high because they can, mostly - it'd be trivial to write your own basic feedback system (although it might take longer if you want *all* of their features), but for a monthly fee you can get rid of that headache and just let them handle it.

http://uservoice.com/signup?ref=getting-started as my goal would be to let all newcomers vote (to have a feedback from newbies and not only from the fan of my site) with their price list and the monthly registrations I have it would hit soon their 589$ a month max price... Yes I could find a script doing so but wondering if there is a reason for such a crazy price.
Vbulletin forum script does 10 times more and cost 120$ a year for example... ok it's not hosted and only a script but the difference is sooo huge...
Or perhaps just me beeing greedy? Sorry then  ;D

That'd be it, essentially. They've priced their product at what the market can bear - and if you can't afford it, you're not someone they're interested in selling to.

As the person who's going to be paying the money for things, that kind of sucks - but think about it from the other side of the coin: you want to get paid, right? And you want people to pay what you feel is a fair price? That's all that's happening here - you just disagree on what price is 'fair'. :)

Right :)
And they won't make discounts or different prices for niches...
Got your point yes

They do have a sales guy - you could try getting in touch and asking. A lot of companies that will give you discounts tend not to advertise that they will (because otherwise, who would want to pay full price?).
