Proxy/Server lists?

I thought I came across this before, but can't seem to find it anymore. Isn't there a list of proxies and ip ranges of server companies (like FDC, Caro, The Planet etc that people use to install proxy servers on) somewhere? I want to blacklist them and can't seem to find that list anymore.

If not, perhaps we should start a list here? I've got a few I've already found by watching users and from the various hosting companies I've used.

Not precisely what I was looking for. I do plan to add public proxies to the list, but what I'm looking for is like net ranges of common offenders (hosts etc)

I'm not sure You will find a "range" of address for that.
*maybe* You can find some hosts, but those are already added to the list i shown.

Probably You could google for "proxy browsing", aka sites that lets you hide your ip, but show some retarded ads. I would suggest to ban those first.

Problem is many proxy servers players use to cheat are hosted on some home computers and have dyndns account. So the IP they get is not static.

Another method would be to log the ip address of players for a longer period of time, and seek those ip addresses where many many account had logd in from.

I don't quite think You can do anything else whitout accidently banning some innocent players...

I demand the ability to ask for MAC address from serverside languages.
I know it IS possible with IE and some activeX stuff.
Other browsers I'm not sure of if its possible by any means.
Even that would not be enough--- 2 lan cards, or allready dual lan ports on the mobo.

You can not beat cheaters. Multi accounts can not be beaten in any way.

There are a number of servers out there that you can subscribe to, you'll have to find the one that best suits your needs.

That is a quite good idea, a list of IPs that are used for cheating. Realtime list.

There are other approaches to consider too... *might* work better.

Problem whit multi accounts is not that they exsist, but usually are used to give a player advantage over others who don't use multi accounts. So, up till the point someone has multiple accounts, it ain't a problem. It will be one if its used only for the benefit of the main account.

The above seems quite obvious.
The clever way would be to monitor IF an account is pushing an other.
Supposedly -for example- account A sends resources to account B, and does this on a regular basis.
You could set up a sophisticated system to check for patterns like the above.
Surely YOU WILL suffer to set it up properly.
But, it may benefit more than a dependency on a 3rd party site information.

I bet if You really wanted to, you could make a list of interactions between accounts that benefit one or the other. So it is not impossible to do it, and I would think it is supposed to be a clever method.

I added this feedback because I think this style of approach would be better to warn about / detect multi users, WHO exploit the accounts.

After all, no one cares if player X has 10 multi accounts, until it does not give him advantage over others, right?
Besides.. Most internet connections are dynamic IP based, Ip based banning can -even with a realtime list- allow the bad guy to play your game. Not to mention what happens if an IP -accidently- stays in the list.. And one of Your honest players -by pure lack of luck- gets that IP from the pool, and can not play your game.. Risky.. You may never know who updates that IP list, and just because someone is cheating in one game, does not mean he is going to cheat in an other game. Concept is fine, but has way too many risky bleeding wounds i think.

Ip based solutions are a very basic form of defence, only huge disadvantage is it will not defend You from the real problem, or its source.

I do have multi-account detection in place, and it works quite well (disallowing trading, fighting etc). My goal with this list was simply so that I could ban ips that are clearly used for cheating (not many legit reasons to get a server and install proxy on it or log in from it with remote clients).

So for example, I have FDCServer's IP range logged so that if you log in from one of their servers your account is flagged.
