Top Site listing + Vote Rewards
« on: May 03, 2010, 05:46:02 PM »
So I have been debating on this for awhile now and figured to get some feedback...

On my game currently I have 10 game site listings for players to vote on. None of these currently provide a reward for players to vote.

After a push from players I started to create a reward type system that would be well balanced and away from the +100 gold type of reward for each vote. But now Im considering not doing a player base vote due to my lack of current population and previous experience with the sites in general.

I really feel that word of mouth and referral from other games/forums is where majority of players come from...not really sure how many are really obtained from Top List websites with web ranking alone. (not including ad spots)

So Im just curious on your opinions on it...worth it to put it or not worth it. My current idea is to make it community effort that will reward players instead of 1 by 1. Something like if 10% of players online that day have voted then they received X amount of gold, turns or something.

thanks for any input.

Toplists are good, if you do it properly. You need to check/evaluate them frequently. If you just want to drop some random ones and forget about the hassle, then it is probably pointless. Toplists require a lot of maintenance.

Forget, that's the solution that works the best. A player clicks the vote link and get some reward instantly. No need to reinvent the wheel :)

Hi, just to warn you that in top-pbbg.com you can set the URL for your reward system  ;D

When it's time to launch my game (btw link: http://test.medieval-europe.eu)
I will put probably only some toplists (two or three maximum) that have rewards system functionality;

You should at least manage to stay in the first page to get more traffic.

I know this is an old topic but here's my input:

I created a couple of game review/rating/voting sites:

www.ogreview.org - this was my first ever PHP site and I wrote it as I didn't like the idea of the toplists that seem to encourage their players to vote for the wrong reasons.  You'd simply get the biggest games at the top and not necessarily the best ones.

I then decided to create www.allbrowsergames.com and see what happened, this being a more traditional type of game voting site.

Is there anything I could do from my side of things that would make it easier for the game owners?

I'm a big fan of browser games and one motivation for creating these was so I can find out about new games, but neither site is all that busy, is there any reason?  I know neither of them is brilliantly done, any feedback?
