Copy Right Protected

What does it actually mean? And how can you use it to steal people from taking your work?

I had a member of mine messaging me with a link.. The guy has used my source and made a cheap clone on my site..

What can I actually do about this?

No idea...  you'll probably need a lawyer.

How he got the hold of your source code in the first place? Hacked your server? This is definitely unlawful.

Copyright is just a concept that what you make is yours (there is no need to register anything, or anything like that, the very act of creating makes it copyrighted). It applies to implementation only, not to ideas (ideas can not be copyrighted - exception is probably USA where even your dog can sue you, but for the rest of the world you can borrow ideas as much as you want :D).

The best thing would be probably to threaten him to take it down and if not succeed then contact his server provider and next his ISP.

If the person in question took images from you and these are in fact *your* images then it's a violation of the DMCA. Get in contact with there hosting provider and let them know he is in violation of the DMCA and they should take care of it.

I'm not sure where you are from but the Australia Copyright Council has some pretty good info that might be of interest: http://www.copyright.org.au/find-an-answer/browse-by-what-you-do/web-developers/
It probably won't be too different from your local laws particularly if your in a country that has ties to the US because I believe they've done deals to standardise these things.
