District 9
« on: August 16, 2009, 04:25:16 PM »
All I can say is do yourself a favor and go check out this movie! I've got to say it's one of the better movies I've seen in a while, definitely not what I, nor Nyx, were expecting. The CGI in the movie is top notch but the story itself is very well told :)

Anyone else seen it yet?

I saw it this weekend and really liked it.  A couple of my friends couldn't say the same.  I think they didn't like it because it wasn't what they thought it would be... Personally, that is what I liked about it.

I think Cloverfield suggested a new way of doing movies...

District 9 -  for example - i think it took inspiration from Cloverfield.

[Rec] is another movie that maybe inspired or was inspired by Cloverfield.

After seeing the trailers, I'm really excited to go see District 9 in the next two weeks. As for Cloverfield, I've haven't seen it yet, but I looks really interesting.

I believe that Cloverfield might have gotten its inspiration from [REC] as [REC] is a 2007 movie and Cloverfield is a 2008 film. I do know for a fact though, that the movie Quarantine is pretty much a remake of [REC] but with some plot points changed.

But as I said earlier, looking forward to District 9.

I got to see District 9 this past weekend and all I have to say is wow. The rediculous guns alone and the violence they do is amazing.

I have heard mixed reviews on District 9... I hear the politcal undertone really turned people off, but I also heard that it is best use of CGI since Jurrasic Park.  I plan on seeing it as soon I get a chance... my fiance was a film major.... I will report back to you guys on what I (an action film junky) and my fiance (a well versed film major) have to say about it.

PS....    Has anyone noticed that the new movie  "9" or whatever it is called looks just like a video game??? I expected more out of Tim Burtton.... oh well.

I loved it, although it was kinda depressing, since it's pretty much what the human race would do in such a situation, and, of course, has done in the past.

But then again, the political undertones made it better, for me at least.
