I was just reading this, found it while doing homework...

It appears to be geared towards people who browse the internet and stuff... im not sure how it would run some of our editors....

However it is linux based, we might be able to turn it into a lamp server? Although there wouldnt be much support, I dont think.

Well they haven't said anything about what exactly it will do. I think at first, it will be majorly geared towards web applications, but as it progresses, especially as its designed to work with Desktops and Servers, it will allow for greater functionality. I think the main purpose though will be evident as there are already other great linux distros out there focused on other aspects like development and editing.

Keep in mind that later this year, when it becomes open source. It will allow other developers to use the Google Chrome OS and expand off of it.

I think it will be similar to gOS, it's mainly designed to run internet apps instead of traditional desktop apps, like google documents instead of ms word, and gmail instead of outlook, etc.

Yeah I think you're right Zeggy. I guess this means people won't need a laptop with high memory and hard drive space to run, if everything is stored on the internet. Means they can make smaller and cheaper technology to run it on, so it would be very portable.

Google is all about centralizing information (not physically though) If you have a google account and use igoogle and google docs and such its already there. chrome is going to enhance these tools they have already created such as those mentioned.

i think the underlying focus for google in many of the tools, api's, etc that they have been delivering of late is that they want more and more for people to be working on the web rather than the desktop.....after all the web is where they make their money.

so the more they can do to facilitate use of the web the better for them....
