What's in a name?
« on: April 15, 2010, 12:29:30 PM »
I have this game idea. It is just an idea at the moment. The other day I was trying to think of a name of the game. Might actually help me to focus all the details in my head.

So, here's the idea:

If you have played Metropolis on Facebook ... it starts off like that but much more. Add some elements from Sim City and a few ideas from other browser games, and you have what I want to work on.

A game with a focus on building and managing a city but with multi player features such trading resources and merchandise, also spying on your neighbors, stealing some of their money, people, etc ...

What can I call it?

Some ideas ... please add more if you can.

City Wars - sounds a little too heavy on the war aspect since there won't be armies and actual attacking ... just spying, corp espionage and the like.

Cityscape - cool name ... there's a flash game by that name ... never played it. So, maybe copyright problems if my game goes somewhere ... one can always hope!

Trade & Spy ... or Spy & Trade - don't like either one, really.

Pop & Spy - as in keeping your population happy and spying on your neighbors.

CityCare - don't think so ... sounds like a hospital full of care bears.

MayorMuse - there's a lot of thinking involved when it comes to managing a city.

City Pirate - not bad ... ???

Citizen Cold War - not actual war ... more of the chilly type.

Cold War City - a variation of the last one.

Okay ... maybe I am not the best at coming up with names ... maybe I have come up with the next big name for one of y'alls games ... either way ... I need a cool name.

Shouldn't you start with checking what domain name is available? The name is kind of useless if you can not find a matching domain.

City of Traders
Metropolis Unlimited
NeoTokyo 3000
City of Spies (Undercover City / Agent's Heaven / Sabotage Town)

True.

But, why look at what domains are for sale if there are a bunch of names I don't like? Find a few that I like and then start searching for domains. Besides, a subdomain is fine with me as well. I'm just having fun learning how to do all of this.

If and when the game becomes a reality ... well, then choosing a name may be more exact. Right now having a first draft name that I like will make the game more real to me.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Espionage & Trade Association (ETA for short) - I thought of this one after reading your suggestions.

I dunno...  That just reminds me of The Crimson Permanent Assurance from Monty Python's Meaning of Life, which may not be quite what you're going for...

CityZenith or CitiZenith - reaching the top of cities.. :)

TownScape - Not directly related, but sounds good to my ear
