I allow multiple accounts in my game, but restrict players to 2 accounts online at once per IP. This has led to some complaints from people trying to play with their brother at home, coworkers at work, friends at an Internet cafe, etc.

I don't want to prevent people in these legitimate situations from playing. This must be a topic that's been dealt with by tons of online game developers before. Any thoughts/suggestions? Since players are allowed multiple accounts, I'm leaning towards just removing the restriction altogether (or capping it at 10 or something) and letting people play as many at once as they want unless there's some reasonable way of handling this that I haven't thought of. A sufficiently motivated player could just proxy onto other accounts anyway, but maybe there is a better way of handling this situation.

This has been addressed multiple times in the forum.  I believe the consensus is to allow as many IP's per account as players can make... but watch user to user transactions.  If you see a large sum of money transfer from one account to another, chances are, that player is cheating.... especially if both accounts can be tied to the same IP.
