Another Suggestion

What if you offered up 1 script or a bunch of simple scripts to anyone who has 15 post, but it doesn't happen automatically, you have to give them the access manually so you can tell if the 15 post were just spam.

Yeah, that would help the spam :)
But if the site gets bigger, there may be many people who I would have to check. I could get some volunteers who would check it then, but I'm thinking of just letting people download the scripts anyways, without registering :P
What do you think?
I figured there's not much point in making people post or register for it. There may actually be more members that way too!

No I think you would have people just download the script and never post, which would take bandwidth away and the only post you might get from them is "i can't install it" or "can you add this feature". You may get a few new people but the people who post 100 post to get the scripts (or 55 now?) and stay are the ones I think you should attract to this board.

In my experience, if you set them up so that people can just leech the files instead of doing anything to get them, they'll just leech.

Personally I would rather see the whole system based off of the karma system rather then post counts.. Some days the span of someone trying to get there 100 posts in to get the scripts really makes it hard to follow the really "good" topics going.

Should be about quality, not quantity.. But then quality is in the eye of the reader and also the "new" person might not have much to offer in way of advice or whatever.. Whatever the new way is I just hope it cuts down on the spam ;)

I think the karma system is a good idea, but I think it would be best to offer a "paid subscription" to impatient users (something like $5 or 10), which would remove the posting limit.
I would definitely pay a small amount, and it would help cover the site's costs. Besides, writing 2 lines in some posts does not contribute to the community.
