How about a wiki?
« on: May 10, 2007, 12:53:33 PM »
I was thinking of getting a wiki for the website.
What are your thoughts on this?

I'm thinking we could just put general tips, starting guides, tutorials, articles and random stuff in it :)
It could be a great resource for newbies trying to get started.

or we could hijack the PBBGDev Wiki

Maybe create a small subsection with stuff from this bord.

I think updating the PBBGDev WIKI would be a worthwhile thing. Who runs it? We don't want to pour work into it if it doesn't stick around for a long time.

A wiki sounds like a good idea to me, I'm just worried it'll end up being as incomplete as the PBBGDev wiki

so, has anyone made a decision yet wheter or not to make a wiki?

And would someone be willing to actually write some content for it? We can just copy/paste from most of the posts, but they'll probably need some reformattig.

Well, if you'd like help, let me know on this as well.  My forums have a wiki, so I might be able to give you a few pointers.

For outright turnkey, no hassle setup, http://www.tiddlywiki.com/ is the best I've seen. It's entirely client based, so while you could spend your time evaluating the countless wikis out there and figuring out how to integrate them with the site, you can have tiddlywiki going in the mere seconds taken to FTP it up.

Yeah, I think a wiki would be a great idea! Especially helpful for the beginners (such as myself) to learn from those who've "been there, done that".

check the starting line and read the articles there.

Especially those written by Codestryke, as he is probably the one with the most "combat-experience" around here.

Yeah I've been going through that stuff, it is all great! I think a wiki might be a nice way to pull it all together and organize it a bit.

Sure, but are you willing to do it? :D

I have neither the time nor the motivation to put up with such a project and I guess most others feel the same way or are just lazy. I'm blaming no one, it's just how the world works nowadays.

Hehe, well I don't know if I'm the most qualified - I'm new to the scene and haven't set up a wiki before. However, I'm willing to give it a shot if you guys want.

NOTE: PBBGDev (http://www.pbbgdev.com/wiki/default.asp) appears to be built around a wiki, though like every single other PBBG site out there it's young and mostly naked.
