Zeg... A RSS Request :)
« on: July 16, 2008, 01:57:59 PM »
I'm sort of addicted to using iGoogle these days. All places of interest on one single page :)

For BBG I selected to show the last 10 posts (when a newb gets on they really like to spam the forums and thus I increased the size so I don't miss some good posts). Anyways. Even though I selected 10, it only shows 5. My guess is you are only posting the last 5 on the feed. Could you increase that to 10 please.

I can say for me Google fetches the info on a X minute cycle and doesn't get the info every time I hit refresh so for me I wouldn't be increasing the load to much. But other RSS readers might...

Thanks either way :)

I second this. I just use the 'Live Bookmarks' that ships with Firefox to see whether anything new has been posted. Typically, most sites have 15 entries in their RSS feeds that I've seen thus far.
Idiocy - Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.

Sure, no problem.

You can customize the SMF feed:

Code: [Select]
http://community.bbgamezone.net/index.php?type=rss;action=.xml;sa=recent;limit=10
That will display the 10 most recent posts. Just change the parameters to whatever you want.
You can also change the type to rss2, atom or rdf.

You can also add board=x, boards=x,y,z or c=x,y,z where x,y,z is the board/category ID that you want to view. That way you can simply get posts from a particular board or category, and filter out general chat, etc.

And one more option:
Change the value for sa into 'news' to view only topics, not replies.

Very cool Zeg!!!

I ended up dropping SMF and going with phpBB 3.0
Every time SMF came out with an update it would just kill my forum (mostly the player's login). The only way I could ever get updates to work was doing a fresh install. To much work for me so went back to phpBB :)

Oh, so are your game logins integrated with the forum logins?

Nope..

SMF just wouldn't allow ppl to login. I had to "hack" 2.0 to get it to work, the upgrade 2.0.1 was suppose to fix the problem. It didn't for me until I installed 2.0.1 as a fresh install. Way to much work for me when dealing with forum software.
