I think I'll have to register there..
And very slowly post my way to getting a domain..
I hate spamming so it'll take a long time, but I'm in no hurry.  8)

Iv just purchased a domain name. If I would have read this earlier I think I can contribute 200 posts to get a freebie. When you say the domains are free. What is the duration? 1 month, 6 month,  1 year, 2 year, forever?

i gonna start cookin my hat - i really gotta see this to believe it.
how do they get around australias silly net laws? i.e having to be a registered business for a .com.au account?
do they actually host as well - or just the domain registration is free?
& their servers manage to stay online???

I think it's just domain registration for one year. No hosting, just the domain.
After that one year, you can renew the domain or let it expire.

I read their site a bit, they register it for you and stuff, but from what I can see, all use of your domain, you have to do through them. They'll renew it after a year if you ask them to, but during that year, you also have to continuously post, getting 13 "points" a year...

You can get domains for $8 a year so I just pay for mine.  I'm not so sure I would like the idea of my domain name belonging to them, or them being the registered contact for my site.

Actually, I think they just register the domain, then push it to your account. That means that after the pay for it, it's all yours. You can change everything you want, and they will have no control. All they do is pay for it.

It's a good offer, offering free domains, because a lot of people don't have the ability to pay for stuff online.

That doesn't sound too bad then I guess.  I wonder how they make money to buy all the domain names.

I'm guessing it's mostly from adsense revenue. These kinds of sites get a lot of visitors and clicks, but it doesn't seem like it's enough to cover the large amount of domains being registered. I guess you gotta spend a little money before you start earning :)

hmm... I don't know what to think about this.

I'd rather pay for my domain name and be in control of it. I just don't like other people handling important data like this for me over the net. But maybe I'm a bit paranoic.

As for how they finance the whole thing: Right now they have a couple of banners and some pop-ups. With about 1000 users-visits a day this can account for quite a bit i think. Besides: I didn't find any data-protection statement (didn't look very thorough tho) so they might sell your email address and make some money of that as well.

Actually, I think you get control of the domain. They register it for you, then they will push it to your own account.
To be honest, I got one of my domains for free as well :)
It was registered by somebody else and pushed to my account, then I could change anything I want and the original registrant has no control over it.
I got it by posting at this forum: http://www.hostbidder.com/

Well, I got one domain-name and that is enough for the moment.

I really don't know if the time invested posting in these kind of forums is of more or equal value. I think I might be better of with just paying for my domain. Those few bucks that I pay for my domain (about 30CHF or ~20? a year) are, in my oppinion, a better deal.

Plus if you get some money from the game, the domain name is almost free (not accounted is the time you spend coding the game).

Good to boost up a forum depending on the topic/niche.

20 Euros? Mm, Godaddy or Namecheap is the best domain registrar in my opinion for their price and service. As far as domain registration goes, they aren't the first ones to offer it for a service like posting or viewing something.
