VPS performance comparison

Nice charts and tables of performance at five VPS hosts. I've been using Linode and I'm happy to see it come out so favorably.

I've been using Slicehost for a little over a year now, and haven't noticed the performance issues that this reviewer did - that being said, I think I'll take a closer look at making the switch now.

Uptime is not always the best way to measure since it means not much maintenance or updating going on.

Sorry for necroing this thread, but I just wanted to share my experience with Linode because I'm pretty sure I found out about them through this forum thread when I went VPS shopping way back when. I signed up with them a little over a year ago or so and the service has been terrific. I'm on the $20/month plan and the VPS hasn't shown any signs of struggling with the server load (up to around 100 players online during peak).

I'm not familiar with "conqueries", what is that? The MySQL database has averaged a little over 2.5 million queries a day over the past 40 days if that answers your question though.

on a host I used to use there was some limitation on conqueries - query = 1 point, connection 25 points or something like that
but ok 2,5m query per day is the thingy I wanted to know :) so server still stable, responsible etc, only minus that they lack paypal :(

Oh yes, it's a VPS so you can run whatever you want and use whatever resources you want within the limitations of the server. It has the illusion of being your own dedicated server that you can install anything you want on, but it is actually virtualized and you share resources with others. It's looking like bandwidth is probably going to be the limitation I hit first on my current plan.

And I assume you mean paying for Linode using PayPal, not accepting PayPal on a Linode-hosted server, right? Because I do the latter. Assuming the former, did you see this?

Quote from: Linode FAQ (http://www.linode.com/faq.cfm)
What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover. We do not accept PayPal, however the PayPal credit card is branded by Mastercard and is accepted. We have month-to-month, 12-month, and 24-month terms available.
