i am new to this server world and programming world but i am very intrested.

i learnt php and mysql quite fast. I want to know some things regarding servers and hosts and domains.

how do we register a domain in .com and is there a need of periodic renewal?
after the registration where shall i host mine?
can we host it in a server at home?

You would register a domain name through a registrar like GoDaddy. You will need to pay a yearly fee to hold onto your domain.

Your domain is hosted at wherever you get a hosting account - whether that's with a host like MediaTemplate or DreamHost, or on your own dedicated server.

You can run a server from your own home, but should consult your ISP's terms of use; some do not allow home users to run hosting servers.

There are plenty of places where you can getting hosting with a domain best to query it and then when you find a host you might like query it and see if it is bad or good

also can u guys tell me the following:

if we have some own server we can keep files in it and create domain but what happens if we are going for a free host ?

should we give our scripts to them??

You need to upload the scripts to their servers either trough Admin Panel like CPanel or ftp, but thats basicly it. I have never heard that the host would stolen a script or anything like that.

My dad does hosting. So I get a virtual machine to do my stuff ^^.
