I stumbled on this site the other day, and I'm glad I did.  For some time I've wanted to make a multiplayer game, and I debated a number of different formats before deciding browser based was the way to go for the gameplay I had in mind.

I have a decent understanding of AS3, an adequate knowledge of C++, and I'm learning php and html.  That's about it for now.

have you decided upon what format you're going to use? also welcome to the site.

If you've been following flash and the other adobe products, it seems like flash is finally getting a good physics engine, and they're also taking an "onlive" approach to how 3d'll work on their games. I'd prefer if they allowed people to render it on their own computers so as to not boggle down the servers that much(if they were using a pc). And php so far seems to be kinda simple and easy. AS did seem like C++ to me....

That's interesting, I didn't know that.

Like I said, browser based is probably the way I'll go.  It'll probably be mostly php, possibly with a few flashes thrown in here and there for minigames and such.

Thanks, but there probably won't be any noteworthy progress for awhile.  It's fairly complicated, and I have other projects as well.

Welcome. Smiley I've noticed a trend that we C++ developers immediately pick up PHP. I think it's because it is so similar. lol

You'll come to have a love-hate relationship with it as time goes by I'm sure. Wink
