Just couldn't resist!
« on: October 28, 2009, 04:13:31 PM »
I had to join, it's been a while since I started to read BBGameZone and I'm amazed. This community reminds me of CodeIgniter's forum and I want to be a part of it. Maybe not very active part at first but we will see.

I little bit about me. I'm from Poland and I've just finished my master's degree in Applied Computer Science (I'm 24). My thesis - "Casual Games" - described a process of creating a Flash & ActionScript game from concept to final marketing. Due to some ownership restrictions I'm not able to publish this game publicly yet.

Appart from ActionScript I've got strong experience in OOP C++ and Java. The latter with simple, multi-threaded, client-server applications I had to make to pass the semester. To keep my budget relatively healthy while studying full-time I freelanced as a front-developer so XHTML and CSS became intuitive after few years, my friend calls me CSS Ninja sometimes. :) Recently I jumped into PHP and JavaScript, CodeIgniter and jQuery to be more specific. As I read though this forum I can't help but notice that my skillset will be quite useful for PBBG development. Unfortunately I'm a complete graphics anti-talent.

I've always wanted to develop a game that will be playable in multiplayer, preferably MMO. I'm not looking for easy money as they're none that I'm aware of. It's all hard work and dedication. I just want to discover a new field of joy and share the fun with like-minded individuals. Hope that I'm in a good place.

Oh, as a fresh graduate I'm currently looking for work. I'll probably be hired by some web development studio or internet marketing company soon. My dream? To develop casual and PBBG games in a team for some big developer (wouldn't mind relocating to USA, Australia, what have you). Would you suggest some steps to take to make such a dream come true?

In Wroclaw there was a new BBG studio opened somewhere last year (they were called Zero-something, can't recall exactly).

Alternative suggestion, make it on your own :D

Thank you all for such warm welcome. Hope to see some SQL experts here. SQL is what I'm lacking code-wise. And making queries for normalized schemas just freaks me out. Is there any good resource about making SQL queries for normalized schemas? I'd be greateful if you post some links.
