It sounds more like economy simulation to me (you perform on the streets to earn for a living then upgrade your business to earn more). It is the utmost importance that you forge this out first (bad core mechanic is what breaks the game no matter how much effort you put in other things).


hey thanks. i guess it sounds better like this.
It is single-player in the sense that there is not much interaction with other players.
It is multi-player in the sense that you may be able to compare performance against others (top 10 list).

Yeah, in the release version it will be full screen by default. It's more convenient to use windowed mode during development.

I'm using C++, like "everyone" :) Also SDL (for possible future porting).

I used that for my "game-in-a-day" contest about 5 years ago. You could also look at SFML... but SDL is good too.

Thanks Chris for the wise words of wisdom ;)

Cannot change the theme at the moment, unfortunately. So we are stuck with it. Now, its how we can make it fun.
Its more like an RPG, but a text based RPG, learning skills, buying new items, using them at shows. The basic mechanic that we had in mind, meant it was singleplayer.

Not hiring anyone at the moment... so what that means is "no money". Its more like, if we win, we split the profits.
Right now, the guy currently responsible for the game-play is not adding much value.. unfortunately.

I would work on the mechanics, but have the coding to be done to get a demo ready in a short time. So, I guess if no one fits the bill, it would have to be done by myself.

I am part of a group that has been formed to take part in a browser game development competition. Our aim is to complete the game demo before the 30th of June. We have a tight deadline and unfortunately the game idea has not been fixed.

The plan was to make a magician game, wherein the player learns new tricks, purchases equipment for tricks and showcases the tricks at events to earn money.

I am certain that there are plenty of designers here who can help with this, but we are currently looking for someone to be a team-member and finalize the design document. If interested, do let me know.

we have a small forum going, the coding is coming along nice and the artist is just waiting for us to finalize the ideas.

tennis should be easier on first sight
its 1 on 1, like boxing :)
I always start with basic and then upgrade it...here it would be 1 player hits ball (strong-easy, good-bad) and 2nd tries to hit it back
A1 - if shoot is too easy then he can hit net, if it is too strong ball can go outside (OR NOT if player2 hits it back :D )
A2 - if shoot is good ball goes where he wanted to put it (ideal is that it hits maximum distance from player2, but still in field), bad is that he can hit net or outside or to player2 :)
B1 - player2 manages to run to ball (because of his good reflexes/acceleration) so he can hit it (look A1+A2)
B2 - p2 cannot reach ball

that is basic....upgrade:
B1.1 - p2 reached ball with his last atoms of strength so his A1 is lower and A2 can be worse
add to players if they play aggro or safe (aggro means shots that almost hit net or almost out of field / safe means he waits for player2 to make mistake)
add stamina to players (after each set reset stamina to 100% or some % lower, so at end of game player cannot run so much anymore in one set)
etc.

I ran an alpha and beta test for my tennis management game. Somehow wasnt too convinced about the ME logic, so had to scrap the game after a few weeks online.

Thanks 133794m3r. I think that's a better solution than mine.

@Chris - Well, there would be 40 characters per squad. Each country would roughly have 50 squads. There might be at least 4 countries. So that's why I need random names to be generated. I do agree that this is a one-off activity.
