A Sneak Peak :)
« on: February 03, 2009, 12:15:10 AM »
Ok first this game is only alpha, hence the crappy login/register pages (my get the game running framework).

I wanted to show everyone here where we are headed with our game development and show how far I've pushed my AJAX skills at the same time. Hopefully spark some ideas for you all to move forward with as well :)

CyberStryke it's a cyberpunk game where you travel though the matrix and corps, battle the ICE inside the corps :)

http://www.cyberstryke.com

Invite code is: cypher

There is still a lot of work to be done ;) Hey it's an alpha!!!

Nice game :)

I think the game fits in the theme quite nicely. I used to play NetRunner TCG and this has the same feeling.

I can send you pics of my cocks if you want reference.

Well, Gibson did create cyberpunk style science fiction, so everything is linked to the book :P

The game is based on an old BBS door game called Netrunner. This has been a project I've worked on for over 10 years. First version was in Visual Basic, at the time I already had 2 VB products being sold and customer support for those two was more then I could bare. A fully graphical game like this would of been a nightmare (pre direct-x). Then I coded it in Java with a C backend on Linux.. Java's write once run everywhere PFFT what a freaking lie, plus it wasn't fast enough the applet took to long to load. So the project went on the back burner, I did a web version I never released but that was click, post, refresh and that didn't have the fluid nature I wanted for the game. Finally AJAX, good JS libs finally put all the pieces together to make the project a reality.

Yes the game is heavily William Gibson based but my personal feeling is the cyberpunk niche is severely lacking online and hopefully I"ll be able to draw them in as well as the avid web gamer ;)

If your looking for something like Uplink I suggest our game Cypher (cypher.extremecast.com). We've been mentioned many times on the Uplink forum as the multi-player online version of Uplink ;)

Still fixing a bunch of bugs and making code for the next version but I have some pretty high hopes for this game :) And if not at least I can put the challenge/quest to bring this game online to rest in my mind.

The second Alpha has now been launched
 * new internal layout/design
 * more information presented to the users
 * personalized avatars (see yourself and others in the matrix)
 * Numerous bug fixes
 * AJAX Chat
 * In game messaging
 * Ranks

Because of the addition of our in-game message center we had to wipe all accounts from the first alpha. But on the bright side signup only takes seconds, no activation messages :)

Edit... This release does not require an invite code.

Compliments, codestryke. I signed just few minutes ago on your alpha version.

I am working in PHP since 2 years, i don't know anything about ajax, I know there are some libraries around (scriptacolous) that makes easier working with JS, i don't know if they make easier working with Ajax.

I would really like to see some examples of ajax pages do you think you can share some pieces of software (that do not include game secrets heh)

Ok, I'm not going into all the ideas I have generated regarding your project. But lets be clear. I have written successfully scifi, cyberpunk and even steam punk short stories. My cyberpunk and space opera novelettes have both won awards, locally and nationally.

You need a storyline, you need clear missions and your bbs could use some work for a still in barely functional form your grammar is rather spiffed, although there are some obvious glaring mistakes.

If you want to hear what I have in mind to help ya go ahead and get in contact with me, my aim is Finalizeddrip.

Story based is interesting but the problem I always see for that type of situation is keeping up with the content. When it comes to creating content for a game I'm lazy, I'de rather fiddle with some new code. So "know thy self" and with that I try to stay away from things that require me to do something I know I won't do. I don't want to disappoint the players. ;)

We have some lose ideas for missions. Taking from an old 80's movie Krull we want to create a mega corp that will move every 12 hours and you'll have to find clues along the way to find where it's going to be. Jump points to other subnets in the matrix are being added so we can expand the world.

Sorry I don't have any type of instant messenger... They ended up sucking up to much of my free time.

We've updated the interface a bit, sorta ala Diablo ][ interface styling ;)

* Each program now has it's own icons (ya the graphics suck, best I could do atm)

* Customize the order via drag and drop

* Larger view of the matrix

* WASD movement control added

* R key to run highlighted program (with the new drag drop interface we'll be adding JKL hotkeys soon)

* Matrix size has been increased from a 40x40 grid to 80x80

Obligatory screen shot...

We are still in Alpha 2 testing but moving rapidly to our first beta release!

Taking from an old 80's movie Krull

wasnt that one of those cheesy conan style fantasy films? Your sure you dont mean Tron.....which along with wargames and weird science I consider responsible for setting me on the path that got me where i am today ;)

Nope I meant Krull, and yes you are correct it was one of those 80s cheesy conan style movies ;)

In the movie they had to battle the demon who captured the princess (ya I know real original). The demon lived in the black fortress, or something like that, that fortress moved every day so the adventures had to seek an oracle to find where the black fortress would be in the future so they could ride there and rescue the princess.

The movie was, eh, but I always wanted to put that concept into a game.
