I have been in development of a BBG named dominant creature.
Code is open source GPL, and ment to help lot of young game owners to create different game.

Also, on boards, you can research further how to use game engine for your likings.
Game uses pure PHP and MySQL, has extremly easy templating possibilites, some new ideas for game mechanisms, and can be expanded or modified with ease. Also, for beta release, multilingual capabilities are added.
Security issues are handled with standard mysql sanitization methods + regexs.
