What's the word on the project, have you decided the game type or game idea yet? There are a few RPG's out there but not so many strategy ones like Kings of Chaos, and koc seems to have leveled out its popularity, don't think its really going to grow anymore and some are tired of it. Another game like KoC and you could get the fans that left it and the ones who still play it since there is no alternative.

The last week I've been trying out a strategy game I used to play a few years ago:
http://www.nukezone.nu
It's quite an old but well-developed game. It's really fun, and it's got loads of members (~1000 players online).

I've also got a game in the works... It's past the brainstorming stage :P But not much further. Maybe I'll go through with coding it, maybe not. Depends on a lot of things... :(

Maybe within a year you'll see a new strategy game from me :P

Games like KoC can be fun, however I don't particularly like the whole link thing. The fact that in order to do really well on a game you have to spam your link everywhere... Never went through with me.

Yeah... getting referrals is nice for promotion of your game but it's not going to be very fair for other players.

Yea, sorry I have been busy lately.  One of my sites just had an age end for 2 games so it was crunch time to try and get all the coding changes in place and games reset.  I thought I was ready but, lol, yea...

I'll try and get an update to this project out soon, maybe the ingame message system next or something like that.

Is this project dead or just on hold? I think it would go better if we had a vote on the game's theme/gameplay and then a thread on features we would like and then all those that can program build parts and the head programmer clean it up and make sure its secure and then post so we all can go bug hunting.

My themes/gameplay type suggestions:
1. A 4 race battle type game similar to kings of chaos (possibly not set in medievil times)
2. A RPG story driven game like Legends of the Green Dragon.
3. A Multiplayer Battle Arena Type game - have it where every player battles each other, but you could also fight against monsters to train if you so wish. Have rankings based on win %, battles, etc. Each player has a type of battle skill (Melee, Range, Magic, etc) The skills are additive to your total attack, defense. EX: Magic type player buys a sword - Strength of the sword 2, since he is magic type he only gets 1 strength, but if he buys a staff then he gets 3 strenght from a 2 strength weapon. Every class type has advantages and disadvantages, (Magic Strong Attack weak def, Ranger balanced, Warrior - strong defense, strong offense but when fighting a range class low stats)
Could possibly play better if you didn't have levels but instead buy certain skills so every player is almost different and you never know what you will be fighting when challenging player.

Its been a while.  This kind of got put on hold like most things, lol!  Anyone still interested?  We can use some existing code and re-write it if that sounds better.

Just a quick tidbit guys -
It is usually faster to do the following:

SELECT COUNT(ID) FROM players GROUP BY gender

than to do COUNT(*) especially if ID is an index

Hi - Anyone that feels the idea of Torn Lands got lost when the phpGamers site closed down? Anyways, all the stuff is still there, such as the Sourceforge project at http://sourceforge.net/projects/torn-lands/ and the bug and issue tracker at http://development.kodapa.com/

Sinzygy was the only one posting anything before the other site shut down, but there was some good ideas floating around before that. Maybe some of it could be re-used based on this discussion?

We might need to contact corey to see if he still has the data from the old thread, because I probably forgot most of the ideas that were floating around.

But yes, either a revitalisation of the Torn Lands Project or a merge would certainly bring some fresh air in here.

As I said, my offer still stands, and you are free to keep going. I'm focusing on my OTWG project right now, although real life issues has slowed the progress down the last week or two. As always, I recommend the CVS at Sourceforge for any community project as it makes the releases a lot easier....
