Online Turnbased Wargame (OTWG)
« on: December 30, 2006, 10:06:33 AM »
http://otwg_hq.kodapa.com What it sounds like. The place where the project idea is documented. Please note that the current development is done with OTWG as a plugin to the e107 CMS. If that's not what you are looking for, you can most likely still help out as the functions I am looking for below is not very much depending on e107

If anyone is seriously interested in participating in code crunching and development, please let me know. This project is an Open Source project and is available at Sourceforge. At this stage, I need people who can assist in creating the code needed to get at least a basic Beta out. This include:

* Data driven display of map, units, hexes and orders
* Order interface
* Turn resolution and During Action Report generation. I have the basic idea of how the turn generation will work and will share with any interested

Later stuff needed, but these can of course be worked on in parallel, include:

* Graphic display of OOB and C&C structure
* Logistics and Production system
* Scenario Editor (Does not necessarily need to be in PHP, but can be a client side app)
* Multi Scale map with all that comes with that

If you are seriously interested, and make sure to check the OTWG HQ description first, please contact me by e-mail otwg(at)kodapa(dot)com and we?ll take it from there

Just wanted to give a heads up to the fact the OTWG is now at version 0.1.2. Anyone interested can find more information at http://otwg_hq.kodapa.com. I had to take the demo server down as the new released didn't work well with the very old MySQL version my provider is running

If anyone feels like contributing, let me know and we?ll take it from there

I am happy to announce a new release of OTWG, version 0.1.3. Release notes are available at http://otwg_hq.kodapa.com. I am still looking for people interested in helping out, and with the goal set on the 0.2.0 release which is more or less a playable, if not 100% enjoyable, game there is some work that remain to be done

Please provide feedback, comments and ideas in this thread, or directly to me

You said you want people to help out. What do you mean by 'help'? :)

Well, it's all Open Source, so help can mean almost anything. I'm currently working on the 0.1.4 release, and I have a release roadmap of some sort here: http://otwg_hq.kodapa.com/index.php?title=Planned_content_of_future_releases

To support the roadmap, I'm looking for PHP skilled people wanting to work on chunks of functionality in the roadmap to speed things up. Specifically for 0.1.4, I'd like someone to look at the hex, map, unit relationship. After that, it's a lot order interfacing, turn resolution, terrain effects, command and control structure visualisation and more to be done

If you are more into the scenario design area, a complete unit, equipment and scenario design module is needed

And, oh, it's all in CVS @ Sourceforge, so it's a requirement to work in the CVS. It's also a plugin to e107, so to make things work it must fit with the framework defined by e107. Contact me at otwg (at) kodapa (dot) com and we can take it from there. All source code is available from Sourceforge if you want to have a look at it. I'll be out of town over the weekend, so I won't be checking mails until Sunday at the earliest.....
