Well, I was thinking of making a browser based RPG, but since I am only just learning the very basics of MySQL and PHP, I really can't pull it out on myself.
I have 100 gb webspace with 1500gb bandwith, and no real usage for them at the moment. So I thought that I'd give it a try to gather a team to code the game with me, since that amount should do for a starting game... But anyway, here's the main ideas for the game play, I wish to know wether they would be doable without huge pro team...
Character Creation:Player would be able to choose from 3 races at first version of the game, more races could be implemented later time, each race would come with unique skills and abilities.
In most online text based games I've seen there, there are like two attributes: Strength and agility. And they amount of them are decided for the player. I feel it's lacking something. Therefore I was thinking of including the following attributes: Strength (Affects in Damage dealt by character), Agility (Dodging and blocking), Dexterity (Attack rating), Speed (Attacking speed) and Endurance (Ingreases change of winning long battles: Person with low endurance would do less damage in the end battle. Would also measure the maxium HP) Intelligense: (measures max mana)
Player would be given like 20 Attribute points to distribute among the skills on first level, and then like 4 each level. (there would be racial bonusses in addition)
I would also like to include description section, which shouldn't be too hard.
Skills: The following skills would be included: Blade (Governs the use of swords and daggers, increasing damage and attack rate) Blunt: (Axes, Maces...), Unarmed (Fists, Knuckles), Marksman (Throwing, Bows), Smithing. (Allows player to craft and repair weapons if they would have materials for it)
Player would be given 10 Skill points at first level, and 2 more each time he advances level. Using a skill would also Ingrease it.
Magic system could be kind of tricky, at this point, turn based battle system would be necessary, something like in AdventureQ, but just text based.
Destruction (would affect on destructive spells, increasing the effect), Restoration (Would affect to Healing spells), Conjuration: (Barriers, etc.), Enchanting (Making weapons better with spells) Spells could be bought from Library, and using them would cost mana.
Each character could also pick one strength and one weakness. I've not decided about them yet thought.
That's about the character creation, and for the most parts, about the battle system too.
Bit more about battlesystemI do know creating turn based battlesystem is nothing like impossible. But it's about NPC's... I was wondering if it was possible to have PvP battles...
Guilds"Guild n. - 1.) An association of persons of the same trade or pursuits, formed to protect mutual interests and maintain standards; 2.) a similar association, as of merchants or artisans." I don't know nothing about how to create working guild system, but I think every roleplayer knows what do we mean with Guilds...
Multiple cities: Often text based Rp's offer just one city, I aim to have at least 5 major cities. I'm just wondering if that could be reasonably made?
Events:Tournament: Should the PvP be possible, I would like to make few tournaments every year. That would of course ean fighters should be on when the match is appointed, or they'd give up.
Guild Wars: Since Guilds are no fun without them, I am planning something for them... No idea how to do this.
Dungeon: A place where there's 10 monsters to beat. This place would require a DM to be on, to pick the opponents for the player. Should the player beat 10 opponents, he would get major reward.
In short, if you know Elderscrolls games, I would like to create something like them, in text based way. The main problem is that real time PvP is known to be hard task. The fact also stands: I am not a good coder, I know HTML and Java Script, but not the advanced coding languages, so I really only have the ideas and the funding for the game.
(note that this would be like version 0.1, so there would be more additions if we would get this work. I'm sure I'll learn coding myself if I can get the project started... I cannot promise payment at the beginning, but should the project profit, every member of the team will get their bonusses.
So, if you have any hints, or want to join this project, contact me here, or via e-mail:
