What's in Your Code Closet?
« on: July 11, 2008, 09:04:53 AM »
I was going through my PC backups and looking at all those old projects I have out there. It's interesting how much stuff I've worked on "Just for Fun"

I figured I'd list them here so, I'd be interested in seeing other people's lists.  Keep in mind, these are all projects that I did just to see what can be done, so they are mostly prototypes and spaghetti code.

   1. myAI - A php based neural net project, gives a visual display of how an AI neural net works. 95% completed.

   2. Great Browser Based Games - An engine to allow people to post their PBBG games, I did this in an interesting AJAXy way. 75% completed

   3. Card - An RPG card game, wrote in PHP, browser based, currently in Alpha. 99% complete. (No I won't share source on this one)

   4. RPG Game Template - A template that will allow other novice developers to build a web based RPG. 50% completed

   5. mobLIB - My library of javascript functions for moving things around, doing AJAX and other funky stuff.

   6. Monster Football League - A php and javascript based american football game. This was kind of neat, but I ran into some processing problems, evidently trying to calculate the position of 24 players and a football on a 100 yard field is a bit more then javascript can handle. But it was fun to try.

   7. Horse Racing VR - I was collobarating with someone to do a Horse Racing VR game, sadly I got caught up in real life stuff that pulled me off that project and my partner disappeared.

   8. Stock Analyzer - A program that analyzes 3000 stocks and gives you the top 3 - 5 potentials each day. 90% complete, working towards a release. (No source code available on this one)

   9. Blade of a Mage - Another browser based PHP game, I used to run a long time ago. Took it offline because I didn't have the time to manage it...looking at putting it back online.

  10. Star Fighter - A flash game, simple top down plane game. Graphics are ugly as hell, so I didn't deploy it.

  11. Tactics - A flash game, imagine chess, but with RPG characters that have stats and abilities. Completed but took too much effort to maintain code wise (I don't enjoy working with flash). It had a php backend.

  12. Ships - A flash game, this was based on all the PBBG space games out there, except with this one you could see the movement of your ships and what not. Ran it online for a while but it ended up, hogging some server resources.

  13. Worlds of War - An isometric Mech battling game, I loved this game. But some moron hacked it and crippled my server. I fixed the hack but I worry about putting the game back online. (irrational fear, but look at what number it ended up being on the list...13...its a sign I tell you!)

  14. Battle Forces Online - Fully deployed operation game, RPG isometric top down view. I like it but I think it needs a lot of tender love and care to turn it into the real thing.

Well that is my list...of course that's just on this PC, who know what I have on my other one.

I build games

Interesting thread ... my PHP closet does not consist so many scripts but still. Here they are:

1. Betting script (beginning of my php scripting, I ran this site but it did not turn out as planned...)
2. RPG game (lots of things implemented - like people can own shops, production buildings, they can kill animals, must pay taxes; code looks like something that was run down by a car, but hey at least it works)
3. DVD movie listing (you can input which movies you have @home and who did u lend them to, it was made for my friend because he got too many movies and he is lending them around)
4. BS-Five (browser based tool to make playing BasketSim game easier...it could be outdated though)
5. DJ-play time list (made for some torrent tracker, hours and DJs are written in txt document)
6. isometric map (like one in Travian)
7. Mafia game script (60% finished, lost my motivation because of so many mob games on market)
8. maze generator (wanted to make some maze game to be on turns but lots of people say that they would not play it so I quit)
9. script fetch data from XSS holes (it works brilliant if you can find some unprotected part of some page to add your own code which will send captured data and store it in some txt file)
10. Strategy game (90% finished, lack of graphics, script is for sale; it is like tribalwars, travian but you must capture land and not cities, alliances are not implemented, maybe some small bugs)
11. Galactic Lords script (similar to stargatewars, kings of chaos, ... was running it for some time then sold it because of lack of time; original script is for sale)
12. OneManRPG (80% finished, all items are user made, there is dynamic map, battle system works, as well as tribes, messages, city making; I lost motivation to finish it, it is for sale)
13. small + unfinished scripts (not worth mentioning or <10% made)

Although I recently deleted a bunch or things I was tired of having here is what I did have:

1. ADODB files (Thanks Zeggy for putting those in ezRPG, I am now addicted to ADODB)
2. 4 Different have coded games that I just gave up on.
3. SandStone Forum Software - A Forum Software coded by me but not finished and not even usable yet.
4. Paid 2 Click Script coded by me but never finished. Somewhat usable.
5. Files for demonstrations on how to code things for friends.
6. Javascript, PHP, and Ajax video tuts.
7. And some other random crap. :P

1. GladiatorBattles - Went though two alphas. Just doesn't have the "it" factor. 100% complete

2. NodeEngine - Game engine to allow someone with zero coding skills to create a game. Go though the
game master section setup weapons, skill trees, 5 different style attack/battle systems. 90% complete,
lack of time and motivation plus to lazy to set up infrastructure

3. StreetRacer - Build up and race cars. Needs a flash interface to race against pre-sets from another
race or pre-defined opponents. 40% done lack of flash experience (though I did get the cars to move
down the track finally LOL)

4. ROD - Realm of Dragons. Fork of Legend of the Green Dragon. Fully OO code, ADOdb and smarty 95% complete.
Stopped, to many men in tights game and now there is WOW

5. Rock Paper Scissors - I was bored and needed to do some mt_rand testing 100% complete

6. ScriptThis - Custom scripting engine uses a BASIC type of style syntax. 70% complete.

7. Bot - Allow the creation of bots to play web games (used scripting engine above). Play style based on
aggression level set at the time of bots creation. Saw a documentary on LoTR movie and there AI system
to control the orcs during battle so I got inspired. 60% complete.

8. phpTexasHoldem - Multi-player / Ajax Texas Hold'm. Switching system over from XML to JSON. XML ended up
being to wordy. 80% complete, still working on it once in a while, need logic for split pots.

9. CyberStryke - Ajax / PHP port of an old BBS door game called netrunner. 70% complete hope to have this
running by fall.

10. MapGenerator - Creates maps based on values put into the form. Kind of internal use only so it's not
very user friendly. 100% complete if you don't mind hard coding where it saves to :)

11. Market Game - Buy, sell, trade goods. Buy factories to produce other goods. Just wanted to see if I
could do it. 40% complete.

12. phpEBay - early Ebay Auction type system. Although a bit more specialized as I tried to use in a game
and it failed horrible (the use by the players that is). 100% complete.

13. SavageUnderworld - Massive social game based based on vampire clans. Stalled. Not enough meta games
for the different clans to participate in. 40% complete.

14. KarnvalKiller - Maze game, run around and kill other players. Target notes are dropped in the game
that you need to find to be able to kill someone. 60% complete. Lack of time.

15. Joust - Jousting game. Did a pre-release had a number of players try it out and like it but once again
not enough things to do. Sort of a 10min a day type of game. Ended up pulling the logic behind it into
other games. Oh and every battle result was emailed to you.. ya got flagged as a spammer
by a lot of systems very quickly LOL. 100% complete.

16. NinjaDuels - 4 classes of ninjas each with different spell casting abilities. Currently looking to pull
the Card Wars idea into this game to give it a more fun factor. Working on my own dumbed down version
of Card Wars. Alpha version 90% complete, new version, umm, less then 10%.

17. xcPortal - iGoogle for our games. Players can create one singular account then add each game widget to
track there player accounts in the various games. Still trying to get my 3 panel drag and
drop system to work as smooth as iGoogles :) 60% complete.

18. mySQL_class - A mysql class, used this for a number of games until I found ADOdb.. They did it way
better then I ever could. 100% complete

So many others, but a lot of them were converted to libraries that I can just plug into the other games. It's also summer and I just bought a 67 BSA that I'm tinkering on. Just can't seem to get the motivation lately to really get into heads down coding...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Netrunner ;)

Its based on CyberPunk books by some author I always forget. Pretty dark universe ruled by megacorporations etc. Worth to check out.

I don't have much in my code closet. I'm a perfectionist and highly organized to boot so my closet gets cleaned out frequently lol.

1) CLIB - A library of php functions that I've found useful for some reason in multiple projects.
2) MVC Framework - A very base content management system. This one will probably be scrapped or revised soon as I've learned other techniques that may make this obsolete.
3) GalactiConquest - A space empire game. This is still in infancy after a huge revamp.
4) Allabrilyn - A site dedicated to the world of a novel that I'm writing (and also the setting I use for homebrew D&D adventures).
5) D&D Miniatures Manager - A project written in D that is a GUI application for the D&D Miniatures game. Still in infancy.
Idiocy - Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.

I am the same way, which is why my project often don't get finished. I just feel they are never good enough. :P
