What are you doing? Let's create a BBGZ list!
« on: February 05, 2011, 07:27:30 PM »
OK, things appear to have been a little slow on here of late. Maybe you're all still recovering from the excesses of December's festivities, or maybe you're wondering what the frick to do with your time during 2011.

So...

I have a proposal and it's borne out of my naturally curious disposition (read: nosey) and my experience of how creating a sizeable quantity of buzz can help to keep the community motivated.

What about a competition?

Ha, ha... only joking. That's been done and done and done and done and killed.

Over on IRC, chrisjenkinson and I have been discussing the possibility of garnering BBGZ community support for a definitive list of what everyone here is currently working on and what they've worked on in the past.

It'd be nice maybe if we could break it down by categories if possible.

I'd also personally be interested in seeing where everyone thinks they are in the software development life cycle; are you in the design stage, engine's done but you're wrestling with game logic, "we're live!" but we don't have many players, etc.

I'd lead by example, but where's the community-guided logic in that? We want consensus. Anyone else have an opinion?

What other stuff would you lot be interested in knowing about what we're all doing? Yes, we have historically posted in this Projects area, but wouldn't it be nice if we had something like: http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm

But, but, but... without all the flannel and beautification. Usability, an at-a-glance list, is what I'm thinking about.

Ideas people, ideas... comment... go!

I would very much support a list of this nature.  I am curious what everyone else is working on, their goals, ideas, progress, struggles, etc.  I know of a few people's projects, but there are many I think exist, but I know nothing about.

Haven't started on a game yet, still trudging along making my framework. Not much to show atm, but it'll be awesome once the main features are done. Also, I'll be able to use it as my engine when the time comes.
Projects: Pith Framework (at 0.5), CactusGUI (at 0.3)

Hmm... let me try this again.  I'll start off:

Lords of Midnight - A medieval fantasy BBG with modern social elements.  Designed and developed by a guy who grew up on the NES Zelda, Kings Quest and Final Fantasy 3.  Some pretty screen shots of my work in progress:

Very nice work CignusX.

I am currently working on Medieval Europe, a web game set in Medieval Times.

I am hoping to have an 'almost complete' game before july 2011. We are currently scouting for artist and organizing for forum moderation and game translation before investing in advertising.

No other projects, ME is taking all my spare time.

I've pushed another update to Xiphos, my ancient Greek island city trading game. I've added building construction to it, as well as an introductory tutorial. I've written a slightly longer post http://community.bbgamezone.net/index.php/topic,3243.msg22963.html#msg22963 with more information and a couple of screenshots.

I'm developing an RPG called Cthulhu Quest which, like its namesake, involves the pursuit of the Great Old Ones and the discovery of Mythos lore. The idea is to investigate plots with your friends, combining their skills with yours to solve various challenges, while avoiding madness and building a story from the plots you've chosen to solve and how you've chosen to solved them.

It's playable right now as a Facebook canvas app:

http://apps.facebook.com/cthulhuquest

At the moment I'm working on finalizing the game features, and so I'll stress that the gameplay, rules, and difficulty are all rather unbalanced. There isn't a vast amount of available content either. And the layout is in wireframe form. If those aren't turnoffs for you, though, there's more than enough balance and content to preview at the moment.

Hi guys

I'm into making amateur videos lately, so have a look here to get an idea of the project (just mute if you dislike the music ^^. I recommend to watch it in HD), and read the video descriptions for information on where I stand :)

I really enjoyed reading about all your ongoing projects, and I am desperately waiting for new input ;)

Have a nice day
All the best

If you could enable user submission/administration, you could almost make a whole site out of this.

I'm currently working on Shadowrun: Corrosion, a Cyberpunk game. I've never worked on anything in the past, so this is my first time doing this. I'm currently in the alpha stage of development, hopefully hitting beta in Q3 2011 and a possible release early 2012.

Yes, that would be nice. From what I've seen of these boards, I'm sure I'll be returning here, trying to pick up some tips, tricks and other help. :)

codestryke or MystressNyx, it would be nice to have this list linked from the header or front page or similar.

The header is for reciprocal linking between people in the network with the intention of increasing traffic both directions, but we've added a block to the portal with a link to the list.

I'm still in the design stage of my project. I'll codename it Avalanche. I have a pretty good idea of what I want but I'm still in the very early stages as far as "on paper" goes. I don't really have much time to work on it as I'm pretty much working 60 hours per week right now. What I'm doing is very different from what others are doing here.

I also decided that I'm going to set it in the same world as the novel I'm writing. Both because I get to be a little lazier in design and to appease my girlfriend's hunger to learn more of it. lol

Can you give us a bit of a clue?
Here's a little bit more:

High Fantasy
Simple Mechanics
Turn-based Strategy
Match-based gameplay
Easy extendability
Player finances go towards playable options not power
New players 100% competitive with older players

Really, all I'm doing is going back to game design basics to solve some of the worst problems faced by browser-based games:

Baby-eating / Farming
Limited initial player base
Lack of diversity
Complex, hidden mechanics

One of these days I'll manage to find someone skilled enough that I can offload some of my contract work to them so I'll have time to work on the game again! lol
Idiocy - Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.
