Y8Y2 - Infection Simulation
« on: November 03, 2011, 02:02:14 PM »
hi bbg guys,
i'm finally finding the time to *post*, and of course it's about my current project.

it's a slow, real-time strategy game. it's currently singleplayer, but already designed with multiplayer in mind (clean client/server split). i'm in the process of making it prettier and generally improving the user experience.

i'm already pretty happy with how it plays. the AI is kind of stupid, but moving around the units is fun and i'm sure i can tune the 'infection simulation' to produce a satisfying fight every time (currently, it's sometimes boring, sometimes too much going on...).

give it a shot, if you want: http://doktorfinkelstein.bitbucket.org/ (play as EU, yellow, if your noob)

i'm sorry the game ends so abruptly.. working on the pacing :)

i'd appreciate any tips on how to make it feel 'smoother', more satisfying with little code or art effort. once i'm happy with the singleplayer component, i'll work on the multiplayer.

currently i'm a bit demotivated, so i'm showing this of - maybe prematurely - to get some ego-stro^HHH feedback hehe

It is not working (FireFox 3), can't click "Play".

Also check Pandemic for inspiration if you haven't yet :)

i should have mentioned: this needs canvas & websockets, so only the most modern browsers work. sorry 'bout that.

it was a big inspiration :) this is kind of a real time, simplified pandemic.

Like the game play, my only complaint is that it's too short  :D

One thing that might be good to add is a way to cross the Pacific, since it's hard for Orange and Pink to help each other out.
Projects: Pith Framework (at 0.5), CactusGUI (at 0.3)

thanks for the feedback, guys. much appreciated.

i will make the game play longer - i think i'll do 3 phases, with a countdown, and each phase will get harder. so in phase 3 you are very likely to lose most population :)

@ crossing pacific: yeah. i'll have to make a connection. otoh it makes for very asymmetric gameplay :)
