Do you share donation/purchases data with players?
« on: April 15, 2011, 06:23:18 PM »
A couple threads popped up on my forum recently asking about making donations/purchases values public. Donations/purchases automatically get shown on the homepage, so people do have some sense of how much has been contributed, but I'm just wondering what you guys have all done for this. My initial reaction is to keep it all secret, but I think people are just curious and it would be nice to share the data if there aren't any major downsides. Thoughts?

Hi, we publish in home pages projects we wish to be funded.

Players can see a description of the projects and the progress percentage.
We publish the list/rankings of best contributors too, without specifying the entity of donations.

We sell game turns. Meaning if a person buys 100 turns for $2.50 then everyone in the game gets those turns. To keep balance in the game we only allow 20 turn purchases a day. So our members know when the cap is reached but if it isn't reached (like we only sold 5 turns that day) then no.

We did though have a list at one time that listed everyone that purchased turns for a give game round. We didn't say how many purchases that they made, just that they did and thus helped support the game.

Interesting. Do you think this sells better than letting users buy turns just for themselves?

Yes and no. What you see with our system is more people teaming up to buy turns because they benefit everyone. However this does limit our income on the game. Another one of our games that isn't turn based makes a lot more because the purchase and use of tokens is account specific and there are those few that will try and buy a win / power.

With the turn / round based game play we offer on various games the amount of turns you get can greatly influence the outcome of the game. To make it fair we give everyone the turns as the true winner of those games needs to be how the winner best used turn management.

My players buy doubloons that they can use in game to acquire bonuses or exchange them with money or items. I have an issue thought to fix: limit the number of doubloons that can be bought in a period, in order to avoid to unbalance the game.

Before doing this, I need to automatize the doubloon sending by interfacing Paypal IPN.

If you're talking about a limit for all players, make it an auction rather than a straight price. :)
