Getting players for a new game?
« on: December 07, 2011, 11:44:47 PM »
Hello,

I am working on my first BBG and it's at a stage where I'd like players to try it out.

Any recommendations for finding players to play my game (and perhaps provide feedback and do testing)?

Thanks!

Hey :)

I haven't made a BBG yet, so other folks here will know better than me, but one of the first things I'm gonna do once I've made one is gonna be to submit the game to as many BBG top lists as possible. People looking for a new game still use top lists quite a lot, it's not as good as word-of-mouth but it's a good place to start.

We've got a few listed here:

Also there's a few people on this forum who own listing sites themselves too.
Projects: Pith Framework (at 0.5), CactusGUI (at 0.3)

For the very first release, I'd recommend you stick with friends, and maybe a small community (such as this one!). You will have a ton of problems and bugs, etc. so it's best to keep it limited to a small number of people who aren't going to judge you too harshly.

If you're beyond that stage, have a look at this thread on listing sites: http://community.bbgamezone.net/revenue-promotion/recommended-listing-sites/

Hi, thanks for the posts.  Actually, this forum is great.  I wish I had found it months ago.  I'm a professional developer but this is my first BBG.

I've finished some updates, including adding a few things to make the public site more interesting.  There are still no screenshots, though.  A few things in the UI need improving before I can get decent screenshots up.

The next post is my marketing blurb that I intend to post on gaming forums to advertise.  I'll also have a reddit on reddit.com, for discussion and communication with users.

Hello,

I am posting to promote my brand new (and still being developed) browser-based empire management game.  It is called Melkovia (http://www.melkovia.com).  Set in the fantasy world of Melkovia, you are a rising emperor trying to establish dominance over your peers.  Harvest natural resources, build arms for your troops, train an army and fight against NPCs for riches and other players for supremacy.

This game features deep industry and market economics, allowing you to persue financial, industrial or military goals for your empire.  PVP gameplay such as invasions are and will be a big driver of the game and the economy.  PVP and competing with other players will give big rewards if you are willing to take risks.

The game is turn based (heartbeat every 15 minutes) with no limit to gameplay.  A Karma system lets you boost your empire's industrial production in return for voting on gaming sites.

I am actively developing this game, building features and improving the UI.  I am looking for a first batch of players to test, promote and most of all enjoy the game!  Come and take a look!
