A group of successful game devs who are looking to invest in interesting games. And you wouldn't have to give up equity or be personally liable if your game does not succeed - looks like it could be a great opportunity.

Hmm.... I thought that somebody linked this a while back but I can't seem to find it now. Thanks for linking again. :)

There's only one bit that I think would mean that they'd be unlikely to sponsor a BBG:
Can your game make money? Indie Fund is funded only by the seven indie developers who manage the fund. We have enough money to invest, but not enough to not care if we get it back, so another primary consideration is whether your game can make enough money to pay back the investment. This eliminates many games that generate revenue via sponsorships, ads, and donations, as well as freeware games. We are looking for games that can generate revenue via proven models such as downloadable console games, digitally distributed PC games, etc.

*Edit - I have contacted Indie Fund to ask whether this is the case or not. Hopefully I'll hear back from them or, better yet, I also dropped them a forum link. Maybe they'll be kind enough to sign up and share their advice. :)

Oh, I forgot to drop an update. They said that BBGs aren't solely out of the realm of possibility and that I should apply. However, to apply, they want to see a playable prototype and I'm not really at that stage yet. I thought I had one but I sat down to play and had nothing but questions. lol Of course, I found employment again too which means I'm back down to having no time to mess with it. :P

But, at least we know now that BBGs aren't completely void from this.

Sounds good....
by the way, out of curiosity, how much of funds would be needed by fellow developers of bbgs?
Maybe I should start a separate topic...or we could discuss it here.

That's definitely a per-project case. lol I couldn't even give an estimate right now because I don't have the game rules finished up yet. Paper prototyping will help me refine the mechanics before I get to the development phase which will reduce overall time required to develop.

But, still, I'm guessing that if I did this as a full-time job, it would take 12 - 24 months of work. That's roughly $70 - $150k based upon my current salary.

You take the contract, I will make you the coding for half the price and we are both rich and happy :D

I think they meant to invest in real costs like outsourced gfx, sfx, music, licenses for libraries, promotion, etc. The programmer is probably supposed to live on air alone till launch time (but I would be happy to be proven wrong :))

lol Yeah, that's definitely their intent. And, yeah, that's why I only work on my stuff during my spare time. I can't eat air and neither can my family. ;)

Well, I guess you're kinda eating air all the time... They just don't call it "eating".

lol really, the best thing to do was to sign someone elses game for a contract, and then 'hire' them as a coder

Just for reference, there is an ongoing sponsorship program for indie developers which may sound interesting to many of you.
