Specifying "browser rpg" on banners or not?
« on: January 26, 2010, 10:41:12 AM »
Hi,

we've just received our top new banners and I wonder if it would be better or not to write "technical information" on the banner like "Browser RPG" or specify it's a no download multiplayer game?

What's your experience with that? Seems half the banners for browser based games specify that point and half do not...

EDIT : hmm sorry seems the flash include system does not work???
(By the way your comments and modifications ideas are welcome if you have)

I would think it depends upon where you're targeting advertisements. If you're placing the ads on other browser based games, it's probably unnecessary. However, specifying it in your banner will help to screen out those people expecting it to be a downloadable game.
Idiocy - Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.

It would also depend on the banner. It is obvious that your banner there is for a browser based game. ("name -> password -> kill" is a big hint + the images)

I would remove the "get addicted fast" button though. It doesn't add any additional info and the banner would look better without it.

I agree with Janne about the button. With most users being prone to Banner Blindness, a button is cliche enough to hinder, not help the banner. Other than that, I think it's a great banner, and I like the "name -> password -> kill" part.

Admins have ignored my deletion request - if you're not going to delete my account then don't have the option there please.

Well... instead of that button there would be space for "browser game", the "name-password-kill" is really good hint, but if there's possibility to include "browser game", why not. On the other hand, there's planty of text even without the button so I'd probably leave that empty

Thanks for your advice, not sure yet if I will remove that button, like it personally even if it's not the best part of the banner yup :)
I will make 2 versions of the banner, one with an additional "browser RPG" written somewhere.

Btw do you think the banner is too flashy?

The answer very much depends on your advertising options - whether you are paying CPC or CPM/fixed cost. For CPM/fixed cost advertising leave it out and just let as many players click your banner as possible. For CPC advertising you must specify as much as possible in the banner. This way you'll only pay for the highest converting traffic.

This is why I always have two versions of each banner - each with a specific text.

Hmm CTR looks about the same than our past crappy ones... There is something I miss : Do you think it's too flashy and could lower CTR due to that? I was at first thinking it would higher it errm
