Hi, this is a nice site I stumbled upon (bbgamezone.net). Thanx for having it.
I have a game that is over 95% complete (save some boring parts that are being touched up even as I write this) and would like an opinion on it (constructive please - the "this could be changed/dropped with a solution format" is appreciated). Anyways, it is not a hack/slash fantasy or horror, not a pimp/mafia style(as I feel the market is already saturated with these styles) - just a simple tycoon(?) style money maker. It was not designed to be a online (RL) money maker - its for fun :-)
The script is for sale (over 40 some files and 10k+lines of code, not so much for content as for my time it took to write). It was written to go along with a tutorial I am also writing for designing PBBG's, so the game interface is a mere skeleton (easily changed to whatever you like) in appearance. The code is very basic (since its designed with beginners in mind) and commented through out. Advance PHP programmers will most likely want to go in and change some code since there are obviously better and more efficient ways to accomplish some tasks and functions. It only serves as a stepping stone for beginners, covering all aspects (as possible) for making any genre of game, which is why I chose this particular style of game. It does come with a full installer. This installer DOES do the mysql database creation as well as the tables. Just change a couple lines in the config and your off.
The game itself DOES require a little fore thought. At first it comes across as boring, but a PBBG usually gets more fun with more players. In this game, its possible to gang up on someone, and have them banned from all stores, thus stopping their sales. Of course that then resorts in all kinds of covert operations (pvp) from the targeted player, to make money other ways. So if you have a site that does not have much traffic, I would not suggest this game (unless you just in it for learning PHP and MySQL). None of the game is random. It IS skill based. If you have a low "charisma" for example, you may find it difficult to haggle prices and/or blackball a player(pvp) from a store - similar, low scrounge skill and you wont find much of anything, and will most likely spend a lot of your time pilfering from other players to get cash to raise your skills. Players CAN find special items that allow their skills to be raised (higher than allowed by training), but only as long as they keep the item - once its sold or stolen, you loose the buff... conversly, there are also special items that do just the reverse - (if you "conceal" your items when you log off, and are attacked - its possible that the enemy could get stuck with that item as well). So as you can see, there are quite a few "little" things that might make this game enjoyable - but since its not the norm (pimp/mafia/fantasy etc..) it may come across as a high learning curve.
Since this is 100% created by myself, as well as working on a tutorial (and I have a business to run as well), I've ran out time to do some little things, like the index story line, and "about game[see left panel of login screen]" section, and over all instructions to the game(you can use the one I already have as a template). I would gladly pay someone to write a 1 or 2 paragraph for each, as well as a small review (not too harsh please). I havens seen a game like this anywhere (yet), so would be interested in what others feel it would fare in the browser-game field.
