Idea for game.

i was thinking of making a text based wrestling game (similar to VOW but with many differences). anybody know the software and script needed to make this type of game?

I think just html, PHP and MySQL, but I'm also a total newbie, so you might need something else too. But I really think that's all you need.

That's were I'm currently learning PHP and MySQL. Altough some people advise to buy a book instead of learning it from an online tutorial.

The way i learned  most of what i know it just to try.

Get WAMP  (windows apache mysql & php)

which lets you run PHP on your computer.



Adobe Dreamweaver or similar programs are very helpfull as well.

XAMPP is the easier to install, you just need to click ok like 3 times after you have downloaded it.

xxamp and wamp both do just about the same thing

Yeah, they have about the same packages but XAMPP has a bit more usefull stuff and is easier to instal

CAPTCHA is usually used to prevent Bots to create dummy accounts, mostly on email services. I really don't see the point in a game for it, but its some reason quite popular in template games.

Most designers have not realised that CAPTHCA verification is quite easy to bypass with intelligent programs designed for it. I personally haven't seen any, but I have heard they are coming more popular all the time.

but why have 1 on registration? seems pointless to me

some form of email verification makes more sense to me and using mail() it is easily done.

Because people hate having to log into their email to verify when they can instead fill in a simple captcha. Just don't follow Rapidshares Captcha. I wont use Rapdishare unless during happy hour because their captcha is so hard to read...
