Is this system good?
« on: August 02, 2008, 09:02:56 PM »
To those who play text based rpgs, I would apreciate if you could send me some feedback on this system.

I dont know if this system is as good as I thought, so...

Here it is.

Players can have little creatures and this creatures can learn skill to battle.
I was thinking and came up with a system where any creature can lear any kind of skill.
The player is the one that can choose which skill each creature learns. He can mix diferent skills and battle.

But that way creatures could end up almost the same.

Maybe if the creatures could have classes like warriors, mage or other, the choices would be limited to a certain range.

I dont know what to do or which one is more fun or balanced.

Does someone have some ideas?

I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you  :mib:

nah just kidding. I think its kewl. The idea of using creatures instead of the player-character himself is appealing I think because you can change your 'skill set' (in this instance your team of creatures) before each battle, and this doesn't detract from suspension of disbelief (ie realism -a normal person would find it difficult to suddenly forget everything he knows and learn a whole bunch of new things in a instant without the aid of some very hard drugs!).

What kind of creatures where you thinking of having?

Well, if your creature learns one skill, thats it, you cannot change it to another skill, but you can improve it.
Its more like pokemon or digimon.
Each creature would have a certain ammount of "slot" to learn and cannot forget one skill to learn another.

That's the idea.

I still dont know what the creatures looks like yet, maybe they are from another planet or dimension

Yeah I know, what I meant was that you can change your team of creatures, which is basically the same as changing skills (or, more precisely, the 'array' of skills at your disposal for the coming battle).

Its more like pokemon or digimon.

Well... its exactly like Pokemon so far (aside from the 'free-for-all' approach to skills), but that's not necessarily a bad thing -Pokemon was a good game  :D

One thing I thought would be a step up from Pokemon is if ALL the creatures in your team (ie 5) participated in battle at the same time. Then they could collaborate with each other and stuff. That would also make it interesting to have creatures using classes like, say, healer, or tank and stuff.

Oooh I'm exited!

Thats exactly what I thought and its in my original design.

Another cool idea is that the players can create or join guilds or clans and enter in a battle using their creatures against another clan or guild.

Huh, this is kinda what I'm going towards.
I loved Pokemon, but I disliked the "childish" approach to it.

Check it out at,

If you'd like you could discuss/scout the development at,
