Making Money Playing a Game - Need Feedback
« on: November 21, 2008, 06:04:44 PM »
Hello, I would like your feedback on a game I am making, and MIGHT launch.

First let me explain it. The game is called “Medieval Life” (sorta like Second Life) it is set in a Medieval time and has skills such as woodcutting, mining, fishing, etc. Medieval Life would be similar to Syrnia, Stroceta, and Movoda. It would have quests, a market, trading, etc.

Here is the twist, all the money you make in-game from trading, selling resources, etc. can be used to cashout for REAL money. Payments would be made by PayPal.

Of course, I would need to make money to pay my players, this would be done by ads on pages and a store where players could buy special items to make it easier to do a skill and make money.

Now, here is where I need your help, answer the questions below and I will decide if I actually want to go all the way.

1.   Would you buy items from the in-game store for advantages over other players and to help you make more money? (Prices wouldn’t be outrageous)
2.   How many, and what kind of ads would you accept before you decided it was too much. Would you be okay with a full page ad once a day? How about 3 banners?
3.   Would you dedicate a lot of time to it if it made you a small portion of money every month? Say maybe $20 - $50 a month depending on time dedicated (This may not be possible, it all depends really)

Keep in mind, ads would be clean, no porn, not even bikini kinda thing. No popups, no overly flashy banners and nothing with known adware/spyware/viruses. Keep in mind, if I don’t like it, I won’t show it.

What are your opinions on this, please only post if you read ALL of the above!

Thanks!
Sincerely,
-Marcus

Forget the ads, the income would be not even near the expenses you would get.

As for $20-50/month per player... this is completely unrealistic.

First of all you have to prepare some other stuff if you want to launch this game. I don't know exactly what the law in whatever counrty you are from says, but in The Netherlands and Belgium it wouldn't be seen as a regular game but more like a casino - business. I don't know the details but I just wanted to point that out.

Now, have you heard of Entropia Universe (or Project Entropia) ? That's also a game you can download and play for free and you can buy ingame money with real money and change the ingame money back for real money. So check there website for more information: http://www.entropiauniverse.com/

Also, if you're going to do this, you MUST have a very balanced game economy.

If it's a fun game, I would probably play it.
And to answer your questions:
1. Probably not, because I never do that. But it's just as a regular game, some would do it, others not.
2. It would kinda depend for me. If you ca

... If you can play the game on one side of the page and there would be ads o the other side of the page and the game would be perfectly playable on that half page, that would be okay for me. Or a landing page full of ads and less ads on other pages, also okay. Otherwise again, it depends how fun and addicting the game is depends how much I tolerate.
3. No, again, not me but maybe other players would. I just don't have the time and if I really wanted to make money I would get a real job ;).

i would play it if it kept me interested.
i would probably not donate money due to my budget.

you should probably check the laws in your country, as here in australia you would need to register it as a business if it generates income.

good luck though =)
