Would you Play This?
« on: July 08, 2008, 10:42:40 PM »
Would you play a text-based browser game where you play the role of a Soldier and you can buy various weapons, armors, etc. And your sole purpose is to fight other players to be the best?

What could I do to improve upon the idea to make it a bit more addictive?

Sincerely,
-Marcus

Maybe that particular genre isn't used so often, but the gameplay is too basic and common.

You'll need to offer something else, like the skill tree progression that you were talking about.

Maybe also offer something else to do other than attacking, and maybe some teamplay elements with other players or with AI.

I've been asking myself that same question lately. The last two games I did were basically the same idea you just posted, theme was different but in the end it was the same.

So I've been toying with integrating the Card Wars concept shown by mobeamer into one of my games. I've dumbed my version of the card logic but I liked the idea of the player making moves via cards. I've got more complex ideas right now with card abilities so I've been stuck on that right now.

Something about the cards, letting them place there attack / defense strategy with them, plus the whole back end of trading cards, limited use cards, giving cards special abilities based on a player class.. Dunno if it'll work but what the hell it's only programming time LOL.. Throw it against the wall and see what sticks.

Well, I have never made a completely successful game so I am trying for something simple, because I can't seem to wrap my mind around how to create a game.
You have good ideas and that will probably be done in the future of the game.

Sounds interesting, and promising. Can't wait to see a glimpse of it. :)

No, in Estiah you get to choose which cards you use, but not the order. they're picked randomly.

Mobeamer's Card Wars allows you to pick only 6 cards, but you get to order them however you want. The order is very important strategically if you want to win, and it also gives the user the freedom and flexibility to customize and play however they want, and to try out different tactics.

Well, i do play both of them. Estiah is closer to Codestryke's idea than Mobearers Card Wars.

Never played Estiah.. Meaning to check it out since it was first mentioned here, but time, never enough time.

Like Zeggy said it's the order and the freedom to strategically decided the outcome of the battle. Version one of my game had quests that you had to go though to earn extra stuff. One of the many questions now is do the quests continue as is and use raw stats or are they battles with pre-determined set of cards by the opponent.

Damn I was going to take the summer and enjoy some free time but oh no, I'm knee deep in coding two games and adding stuff to the older ones LOL

It's hard to resist the urge to code. :P
