CakePHP
« on: October 06, 2007, 01:04:07 PM »
Has anyone tried creating a game in CakePHP? Is it a good idea? Seems to me like the structure provided would be great if you can get past the learning curve of using CakePHP. I'm studying it now but before I get too deep I just wanted to see if anyone thought it might be worth it in the end.

Looks interesting.  Kind of reminds me of the old C libraries that were available.

Using the helpers and plugins would probably be useful, but I don't know how using model view controller would work out with games. To me, it seems more difficult rather than easy to use cakePHP, but I haven't really tried it before.
I have tried codeigniter though, and I think the ideas behind those two are pretty much the same. I'd use codeigniter for a normal website, but not for a game unless I really understood how to use codeigniter :P

The more I learn about CakePHP the more I think it's a bad idea. Apparently it's like Ruby on Rails and I know people have created games with Ruby on Rails. I just think it would end up being more complicated. I was starting to feel like I could breathe with CakePHP since the structure is so strict. I think I'll stick with the "regular" way of doing things.

Well developing your own reusable code and functions is always a better idea anyway.

I use Cake a lot, but have never tried it for a game. I actually think it would be pretty easy, it's just that Cake is a hassle for using with multiple sites on one domain -- which is why I'm making my own MVC architecture.
