Well, it depends on what type of game you want to make.
Do you want to make a browser-based text game, a flash game or java game?
Most text and java games are created by coding, while flash games require some graphics skills and also coding.
It will be pretty hard to start if you don't learn how to code in PHP, Actionscript or java first.

php is indeed similar to html, but you cannot compare the two. PHP is 100 times more complex than html, but you cannot use php without html :D
Lol I don't even know what I said ... :D

I would say to use a editor for php like php coder pro: http://www.phpide.com/phpcoder/download.htm

It offers tools specific to php and html and has syntax highlighting which will help you with debugging.

Dreamweaver is a little too complicated for me. I used flash 5 a while back now and started getting pretty good with it but ended up not using it for a while and now I can't remember hwo to do anything with it lol

Isn't dreamweaver expensive?
I've tried it once, but I never actually used dreamweaver for anything.

Just use Textpad :)

PHP is easier then html, way easier.

At least, on my opinion.

You can make a game with php without knowing much about html.

whats wrong with dreamweaver?

dreamweaver makes things a lot more complicated then they really are.

I strongly disagree. HTML is simply markup. It's as if instead of using MS Word, and simply clicking a button to format your text, you have to write explicit instructions for each layout decision you make. PHP is an actual programming language, with a vastly different vocabulary, syntax, and semantics. In HTML you only think about aesthetic design, while in PHP, about the logic and workflow and statefulness and all the other associated conceptual requirements of programming.

Dreamweaver may or may not complicate your life, depending on whether you think WYSIWYG makes you more or less productive. Visual Studio is an IDE from which Dreamweaver has borrowed much, and it itself provides amazing gains in productivity, for example, though it's debatable whether Dreamweaver accomplishes the same.

The only thing I use the wysiwyg html editors for is some nested tables and forms. I create the form or table layout then cut and paste the html I need into my php editor and go from there.  Most of the time you have to go back and do some cleanup work though because the editor thinks its smarter than you are  :D
