PHP or Javascript
« on: February 20, 2009, 04:02:11 PM »
Hey everyone I am new here and and am thinking about making a game. I have been learning PHP for about 3 weeks now to get better at web design, but I am going to try and make a game because I think it is much easier to test my skills by making a game rather than a website. I have also been looking at javascript a little bit as well so that I will be able to add AJAX to my websites. Here is my question...
Should I just stick with PHP until I am very good with it and then learn Javascript or should I try to learn both PHP and Javascript at the same time?

It's going to take a lot longer than three weeks with php to build a game. However that being said, Php is a good system to build on. The modular ability is worth a lot.

PHP is the core of systems, JavaScript is just enhancement of the application, so I'd stress PHP, but feel free to learn JS as well
It's not a problem to learn both, both are actually quite easy languages (compared to some othes)

yea i know it will take longer than 3 weeks of learning PHP to make a game. But I am making the game mostly for learning purposes only because I think it is much easier to learn by actually applying the different techniques to real situations rather than just reading about them.
