Do you charge?
« on: June 06, 2007, 08:59:11 AM »
For making your renders?  I'm just curious, because I've seen some really great artists out there, but many of them charge.  Presently, I do not charge for simple signatures or anything, although I do charge for custom logos and what-not.

I'm not skilled enough to charge anything... Plus I never even got a request for something like that.

Haha, I'm the same as sinzygy. I'm more of a coding person than a graphics guy :D

I usually never charge either for signatures, etc.
Only when i am doing a larger project, like a few site, etc - will I charge for that type of work.

I'd be really interested :)

ahhh... that harry's barmitzwa site is great!

thanks, now I know at which level I could start charging :) But I guess I'll stick to making games a bit longer and see if someone is stupid enough to want something from me for money :D

Most of my work can be found in the form of signatures and user ranks, on Gaming Forums, Lurking Mastermind, and The Rogue Forums (my site).  I've done one stand-alone site, but the only wants me to release the site before he pays me- I don't think so!  I needs mah monies!

I think making games, or websites, takes a lot of time, and you should be compensated for your time if you are doing it for someone else...

It all depends on you really..
Some people love the "opensource" way, while others like to charge for their effort..

Just to mention, it's not terribly hard to monetize open source projects. Usually, this comes in the form of other indirect benefits, such as publicity which may then lead to increased consulting work, book deals, networking, volunteer contributions that improve the overall codebase, etc.

I think once I establish a stronger base of players I may open source my code. Content, however, would not be part of the open source project (except for possibly a sample set of data to get anyone started with a town, a handful of items, a few non-player characters, etc). That way, I'd feel like I can still possibly charge for premium content in my game, but the code could be open source - best of both worlds?

I personally don't charge, but my work isn't as nice as others. Plus I rarely get requests, since I do it during my free time.

Depends really, small quick edits or jobs probably not, but larger ones I feel they should be charged for.

I'm more of a coding person, but I would charge for people I don't know and for those I do know I would offer them free work pretty much whenever I'm free.

And those who I would charge I'd be very cheap, as when I do graphics I enjoy since its a bit of a change from coding!

Lol, thats just me though.
