Random Art ( Updated 1/17/09 )
« on: December 17, 2008, 10:12:42 PM »
I just doodled this earlier today. Not sure what I was trying to do. Don't like some aspects of it, but that's life.

I plan on doing more polished comic art for my game in the near future. Who knows.

I am going to be redoing the art for the game's robots slowly. I have found a new style which looks much better than the current style.

New versus old....

I am no digital pro, so this may be old hat for some, but for me its ground breaking ha! Especially since the new picture isn't a vector nor did I use any gradients on it ha.

Um, I started doing sprite art in mid October. Learning as I go, hence the horrendous crap you see before you ha! I haven't drawn in years before that though... getting back into the swing of things!

I was about to post this just as you responded.... Here is a piece I did for the heck of it... The Admin Assistant....

I'm sorry that I've misjudged your art. You're pretty good.
I'm not slacking off. My code's compiling.

I'm not being sarcastic. From it's way better than most of "art" people do in my area and it is certainly better than the art I could do.

Its odd.... the body is disproportionate on purpose for the game's feel, but there is something about the face/head that doesn't seem right... I can't put my finger on it.

Actually, I think it might be because it looks so tiny compared to the massive tits and ass. I might redo her head today and see if it will look better a tad larger.

I think it's the nose...

I dont think there is anything wrong with the proportions in the picture itself....perhapes the subject matter ...but then again im an old fuddy duddy ;)

after all it is clearly disproportioate but then so too are most cartoons, if you drew a series of pictures with the same style and similar (dis)proportions then they would look homogenous, this is just stamping a visual style on your art.

for example if you ever get the time to watch a few minutes of the Bratz cartoons youll see that the people in them only ever have noses in profile....never in full face....but because all characters are the same its part of the style ...

These aren't Cubicle Battle art, but I just wanted to share for no particular reason. Not finished, but in the process.

It seems that the troll reading the book wasn't what my boss wanted, which is fine.

So I have started on another piece. This one he likes, so, expect updates on this sucker. This picture marks the first time I have seriously colored my art besides using two or three shades for boot leg vector effects. So this sucker is going to take me a  while to finish as I am learning how to paint... for once.

Great stuff!  How long does it take you to color a typical drawing?  I've done most of my own artwork before, but I always get frustrated at cut corners while trying to color my scanned drawings because it takes so long.  I suppose it might be easier if I invested in a tablet :p

A couple things....

Never cut corners, and try to not loose your control while coloring. Taking your time will be worth it in the end, ALWAYS.

And yes, you need a tablet for digital coloring. Thats like riding a bike on a freeway and asking if you need a car to get to your mom's house faster. Yes, invest in a tablet!

Depends. That troll reading a book has probably taken me 10 hours so far to color. I haven't updated the picture with a moire recent version yet.

The little green gretchin took me an hour to draw and an hour to color.

What would you like me to do to the eyes? I can always tweak the picture. You want, like, an actual pupil or something? Snake like?
